“It's not unfair for you to feel that way, but it is unfair for you to assume that none of them are sorry for what happened.” Taweret set the bottle just a bit off to the side, within easy reach of both of them. “There is no way for you to know for certain, and it was a long time ago. Most of them were able to work through that pain with their loved ones nearby. But, it is unfair to assume how any of them actually feel on the matter.”
She took a long, slow sip of her coffee / Kahlua mixture before continuing. It was a matter of figuring how to go forward with what next. Then she knew and set her cup down.
“It's also a bit unfair to not take any apology they give you at face value. Now, you ain't gonna like this, but listen... Frigg did what she had to do, or felt she had to. It hurts because of your place in what happened and how betrayed you felt in your relationship with her, but... she had to do what she had to do.” Her hands folded together. “Does it strike you as strange that your husband isn't spitting fire with rage at Odin? Yeah, he dumped on Bes about how he thinks he's mostly responsible and shit but... he doesn't trust that mother-fucker farther than he can throw him because of two things: one, Odin's self-interest has always been at the top of Odin's priorities; and two, it was a riot of nearly the whole of Asgard versus one man... there was no chance he was going to put Loki above Asgard.”
Taweret shook her head. “Honey, no ruler would. The good of the country... the good of the pantheon... the need for peace versus civil unrest. I doubt Marduk, Enlil, Horus... Isis in her days of power, Zeus or maybe Hera... I could go on, anyone... would have acted much differently.” After a deep sigh, she finished her thought, “it is difficult for sitting rulers to have close friends because no matter the circumstances, their political hat never comes off. Odin is always head of Asgard, every second of every day unless he passes that role on. Frigg cannot put aside her role no matter how much she might want to, though... she might forget herself sometimes. The inability to really stop being Queen was a hard lesson to learn. Ask Isis someday about when she first met Frigg. About how young she was... shortly after she'd married Odin... and how unprepared she was for her new role...”
