She was crying. Bast never let anyone see her cry. Nubie wrapped his arms around his sister and held her tight. He could pretend he hadn’t noticed. He would never tell anyone about this. Not unless she asked him to.
He wasn’t sure what he should say to her, but he needed to know what was wrong. If someone had hurt her, he needed to know who it was. He wasn’t much of a fighter. But he would do some serious damage to anyone that hurt his sister.
“Let’s go inside,” he suggested, keeping his voice low. “We can have a drink and you can tell me what is going on. Okay? I’ve got some Cocoa Puffs.”
