The long pause before getting an answer didn't phase Lottie in the slightest. Thoth regularly took time to think things over before speaking, she'd been witness to it before. But the doubt in his tone had her watching him a bit more closely, because that was definitely unusual with the Egyptian. Then came the answer about music, and the frown. And finally the comment.
And Philotes realized that she'd inadvertently brought up a subject that could be a bit touchy. But because it was Thoth, and she had no hesitation in discussing any topic with him, she didn't back away. He wouldn't either. He was the sort that preferred to explore.
"Thoth," she said softly, "don't you know? You bring her happiness. She loves you very much, and after all this time, I'm sure that she's gotten very used to the fact that facts and knowledge take up so much of your mind, that little things like favorite colors don't have places to stick. What's important to her is that you love her too. And you do. I know you do. So does she. She's very smart, there's no way she could miss it."
Then she smiled. "But, because she used to you being as you are, if you surprise her with something very romantic and personal, it's going to have a much bigger impact. Huge, really. So. I think what we need to do is a bit of... research. Not the sort you usually do, but hands-on. Are you up for that?"
