"Seriously," Lottie returned, "why haven't we met before? Because you and me? We may have different motivations, though not that different, but what we want for people is pretty much the same. I'd like for everybody to have good things in their lives."
She glanced down at her beer, fiddling with the handle on the mug for a moment, a fleeting look of regret flashed across her face so fast that it almost hadn't been there. "Which sometimes sets me at direct odds with the people I love the most in the world. My sister calls me the white sheep of the family. My siblings include Hate and Death and Pain, so... yeah. I understand their purpose in the world, though that took a long time to figure out. But I still can't help but want happiness for people."
Lottie looked over at Ninkasi. "You get that probably better than anybody else I've ever talked to. Except for the part about feelings and emotions. Since, you know, that's kind of exactly what I do. Friendship and Affection. And yeah, it can hurt. But it's kind of like that saying about how good things never come easy. That good feeling, that'll only be on the surface, it'll be fleeting, unless there's real emotions involved."
She raised her brows and said, "You know, like you and Thor, and you and Bast, and you and Dio. You and Kratos. They can hurt you, yes, but... do you want to give up what they bring to your life? Do you want to give up your own happiness? And theirs? That's the whole point of feelings... they're what make that happiness. Don't you think?"
