Thor sat, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees. And then he listened. It took a while for her to get through all of it, and for a long moment when she was finished peaking, he stayed quiet, mulling his thoughts.
Finally he said, "Well." Then he fell silent for a few more minutes, considering the best way to phrase his thoughts. He proceeded slowly. "Don't think it was just your lack that caused anything. Y'know, it's not like 'e don't know you, or that you never geen to 'is place before. Boy coulda bought some jammies. And 'e shoulda talked with you 'bout stuff 'fore tricking you at Halloween. Sounds to me like 'e's got the same problem you do, 'e's just coming at it from a different way.
"Don't think 'e can really help that, though," Thor said, looking speculative. "You got a role model like 'Is Royal Doucheness and you're gonna end up like that brother of 'is, chasing anything in a skirt, or like your boy, clinging to a set of rules to subconsciously balance out the amoral behavior 'e sees every day. Least, that's my theory." Thor shrugged. "So really it's just habit getting in 'is way.
"Which ain't to say," he cautioned, "that just 'cause the two a' you have the same idea that it's a good 'un. Your aunt might be right 'bout you overthinking things, but not the things she's talking 'bout. You and your boy been friends longer than you and me, and the sex thing has only just now come up between you? I had some pretty healthy fantasies 'bout your boobs within a year a' meeting you, but you and 'im never been down this road before? Why now? Just 'cause you saw 'is wanger? Just 'cause you shared a frisky kiss? 'Fore you two go making things complicated, maybe you should ask yourselves if you're tying yourselves into knots over something that's gonna pass. If the answer's yes, dont' be stupid. If the answer's no, still don't be stupid. 'Cause if it ain't passing, is it gonna be lasting, is it gonna be something? 'Cause you been friends forever. The caring is there. And sex could change how that caring feels."
Thor gave her a level look. "That's my two cents anyway. So. Are you just looking for fun? Trying to settle your curiosity? Or do you want this to be something lasting?"
Because in all the time that he'd known her, Ninkasi had never settled on a guy. Or a girl. Which was fine when she was messing about with acquaintances, or those of a like mind to herself. But a different story with somebody so devoted he'd stuck with her for thousands of years. How had she not figured out that the boy was in love with her? Thor thought it was pretty damn obvious. And sex? Sex would change everything. No way around that. Was she ready for those consequences?
