"I appreciate the honesty," Seshat said sincerely. "I prefer that than dishonesty, however politely intended. As you've already discovered, it is how I proceed with things myself."
Which seemed to have rubbed the dark goddess the wrong way. The Egyptian was disappointed that things had gone that way, as she'd have loved to ask more questions, but it seemed like it would not be the best idea now. Especially given that she was Kratos' mother.
"I am sorry if my inquisitiveness was rude," she offered. "I promise you, that was never how it was intended. But we are each our own person, aren't we? With our own foibles. That happens to be mine, and even as aware of it as I am, I've never been able to completely curb it. And it is much worse when I'm presented with something that I truly wish to learn."
She smiled brightly then. "Even though you'll not be coming to dinner, at least we can pass each other pleasantly if we see one another now. And I will look forward to seeing you again. You are a fascinating individual, Styx."
With the book about Harry Seidler in hand, Seshat gave a nod and headed for the stairs that led down to the cash registers.
