It was good to be back. Bragi hadn't joined her, and likely wouldn't for a while, but that was okay. They had spent a few wonderful, much needed months together since the incident. Which was about all Idun now thought of it as. The incident. Not even in caps. Because in the scheme of things, it was in the past. Done and over with.
Idun knew the time would come when she missed him, as she always did, but for now she was content. Mostly. What was actually bringing her down just a bit was the seasonal changes. Idun didn't do as well in the fall and winter months. Which was partly the fault of her aspects, and partly just because she was a lively goddess, and those months seemed to her to be all about decay and death. Nothing bloomed, and the world was so still, the silence was almost oppressive to her.
One enjoyable thing this time of year marked, however, was her apple duties. In days long gone by, the harvest marked the annual feast, when Idun would grace each dweller of Asgard with a single bite of her apples. That was no longer the case, as she made sure now that everyone was well stocked. She could disappear for years, and the gods would be fine. Still, she liked to check in with everyone and refill their supplies each autumn.
Usually the apples were accompanied by a pie or cake or cookies. Just a little something extra for those she loved from her own kitchen. The product of those things she grew herself. Idun had already scrounged her neglected gardens for what might be left, with little success. The orchards, fortunately, held a greater bounty, and her counters were filled with baskets of fruits and nuts. She smiled as she gazed on them, wondering what to start with. They all looked so delicious it was hard to make a decision.
Grabbing her book of recipes- which was more a binder of plastic sheathed, hand written cards and notes, she took a cup of hot cider and settled into her favorite chair. Surely she would find inspiration on one of these pages. Getting going was half the work; the rest would be enjoyable as she got elbow deep in sugar and flour.
