It's all Relative [tag: Re]
The Salisbury Plain. Thoth had to admit it that had a certain mystical quality to it, he supposed. Especially when the sun rose or set over the monumental landmark that distinguished the Plain from others and became to many a definite stop when visiting southern England. The logical part of Thoth's brain knew that it had something to do with the latitude, the way the barometric pressure tended to be and the fact that the henge stones were massive and created just a sense of wonder and awe in the mortal onlookers. That was the easy answer. The rest... not so much.
It was magical and mystical and it was definitely a curious wonder all in itself. Firstly, how and when it was built. For hundreds of years Thoth visited Stonehenge hoping to figure out the answers to his questions. It had always been thought, and the Greeks still tended to think it, that the Celts were a young people. At least in comparison to Egypt, Sumer and Greece, but that couldn't be so. At least not to the degree many believed.
Carbon dating put Stonehenge at being built around the same time Egypt was in its Early Dynastic Period. If the henge was used for spiritual worship either the Celtic deities were far older than originally thought or maybe there was a whole missing race of gods somewhere. During that period the last thing any Egyptian was doing was pondering the existence of people north of Greece.
It was a mystery and one he was quite sure he was never going to figure out, and for some reason he was alright with that. Some questions were not meant to be answered, but that didn't mean he couldn't continue to wonder.
So he frequented the ancient site. Partly to think and partly just to find a sort of peace. For all the majesty and wonder Stonehenge inspired, the old Egyptian found a great deal of peace in it. With the sun setting, he exhaled happily and watched with his hands tucked into his pockets. There were cigars tucked into the breast pocket of his tweet jacket and the thought of smoking one crossed his mind. It wasn't as if the mortals could see him at the moment. If he wanted to step over the ropes that kept the public from getting too close or touching the deteriorating stones, no one would be the wiser.
He wouldn't though. Thoth knew that they were just trying to preserve history as best they could and that was something to be applauded.
