Oh, she had piqued his curiosity even more now. Which was why Zeus had a smile on his lips as he increased the length of his stride just enough to catch up to her without having to actually increase his speed. Oh, he could easily catch her if he had to, but such exertion was unnecessary for the moment. “I never meant to offend,” he said. “It is, I believe, an occupational hazard of mine. I am accustomed to having to deal with all matters in as timely a fashion as possible, sometimes many issues at once. Dawdling does not promote success.” Which was absolute truth. If he had waited, it was possible that there was not going to be even a shred of an opportunity to secure the colt.
She was still walking. Which, to an extent, meant the chase was on. Zeus had always been quite fond of the chase. Whether it led to sexual congress or not, the reward always that much sweeter when he had to work to get it. “Also, I felt it necessary to self-censor before I said something rather offensive regarding the elegance of some of your kinsmen and the culture they perpetrated. It seems that my mental pause was unintentionally rude.”
Zeus did not reach out to touch her arm, as he would in most other circumstances, to assure that he still had at least a portion of her attention. She was being indignant, there was no reason to make her uncomfortable with uninvited physical contact right away.
“Forgive my rudeness,” he said with honesty. It really had not been his intention to offend. Not at all. When Zeus wished to offend someone he was not only sure that they were properly offended, but that they knew he did it intentionally. Sometimes it was beneficial to admit he was in the wrong. He just hoped this was in his favor. “I was genuinely enjoying our conversation. Allow me to buy your funnel cake and make amends.”
