Waking Up (Tag: Bragi, Hybris?)
As Idun slowly opened her eyes, she got the rather distinct impression that time had slipped by without her permission. She wasn't opening her eyes from a blink, or from a nap. Her last memory was at the gates of the Underworld. Hades had agreed to let her into his realm. He let her pass, and then she started walking, quickly, because there was a six hour time limit to all of this. Bragi's voice had been incoherent and weak in her mind, but hearing him had been the sweetest relief Idun had ever felt. He was alive. He was still with her. And she would find him.
But something had happened. Something had stopped her. Because, opening her eyes, Idun slowly realized that this was not where she had been when her eyes were last open. Her head ached in a way that Idun had never felt before, her thoughts feeling hazy and thick as they sloshed through her mind. Something had happened, and she had no idea of knowing what, but as she struggled to keep her eyes open, certain details slowly filtered through. She had never been in this room before in her life, for example. She did not recognize her surroundings. It took her a very long stretch of mildly incoherent time to even determine that she was no alone in the room. Blinking against the darkness, she studied the outline of a person...a man. Bragi. And that was how she became aware of the ropes around her wrists, tying her in place. Idun struggled against the ties instinctively, fiercely, ignoring the pain as she attempted to break free.
She couldn't. The ropes were too strong. But her husband was right there, right across the room, and being so close without being about to rush to his side was torture.
"Bragi..." she whispered as she continued her desperate struggle against the ropes. "Bragi, wake up. Please, I heard you. I'm here, Bragi. Just...wake up."
She couldn't cry. Not now. But she wanted to, oh did she want to.
Wake up! she shouted wordlessly. He needed to stir. Idun had no idea how she was here, where here even was, but it didn't matter. Bragi was here as well. They were together. He needed to wake up, and then nothing else would matter because they would be together.
