A Necessary Reunion [tag: Hera]
Harmonia was laying in her bed at her mother's temple on Olympus. It was one in the afternoon and she was in bed. She wasn't in her nightshirt anymore and the bed was made, but at some point while fixing her hair she got distracted and ended up spread out back across the comforter. Though, distracted was an understatement. Harmonia was obsessing.
There had been nothing but pleasant dreams for the past few weeks, far happier than anything she had dreamed in thousands of years, and each morning she actually woke feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. Except as she ran a brush through her hair, she had made the mistake of looking at the note she stuck to her mirror so as not to lose it. And then she made the additional mistake of taking it down, opening it, reading it again and then flopping face down on the bed in a mixed mess of emotions.
Oh, she was excited, make no mistake about it. The idea of seeing the Norseman again and for once it having nothing at all to do with her aunt -she hoped, was very exciting. She liked him, she liked him quite a lot, but what if she was misunderstanding the whole thing? What if everything from the last time she saw him was just more kind gestures on his part. Seemed unlikely, but she wasn't sure. Plus Haromina still hadn't looked up what Valentine's Day was, she had been preoccupied with other things. She wasn't quite ready to ask her mom or anyone and probably definitely not Lottie about it either.
Balance did not question that her best friend would support her, but there was this overwhelming feeling that she would be letting her down by having a maybe-date with someone that wasn't who she had hoped. And Philotes really seemed to be hinting that she wanted to set her up with someone else. Harmonia couldn't bear the idea of letting Lottie down. Not now. Not after everything. Especially since she was already imposing by staying between Lottie's house and Aphrodite's temple. She really needed a place of her own.
Which was the only thing that snapped her out of her worry about whether her scheduled time to see Tyr was a date or not a date and what she should wear but shouldn't she find out if it was actually a date first and then what they were going to do on this date that might not be a date and oh my god she was so utterly in over her head.... No, Harmonia needed to focus. One thing at a time. She drew in a few deep breaths and planned her next few steps.
Step one, talk to Hera about getting her own place and what that would all entail. She wasn't going to talk to Zeus, she was so many ways of not ready for that. Step two, get her own place somewhere whether that be Olympus or mortal realm. Step three, fret about whether or not this was going to be a date date and not just a “lets hang out while I watch tv” sort of thing. Step four, panic.
First things first, she needed to talk to Hera. But what the hell was she going to wear for that? Khaki cargo capris and a scoop neck tee were not appropriate for that sort of audience. Hera would scowl, she was sure.
Rummaging through her closet of things she'd acquired, both on Olympus and at Lottie's, she managed to piece together a black knee-length a-line skirt and a soft pink short sleeved top. Flat shoes, she still wasn't brave enough for heels. Taking another deep breath, she tucked the note back into its position on her mirror at her mother's, stared at her reflection and composed herself. She was going to have to focus. She could not let her mind wander. She had to be not only a loyal subject and granddaughter, no matter what Hera's influence or lack of assistance in what was done to her family, but she also had to be the calm collected Queen she had been among mortals.
Harmonia frowned at her reflection. She looked too plain.
Hmm.
She wished she had some pearls. A simple pearl on a chain would be so lovely with this. Peitho had a lovely pearl necklace and earrings and...
In a moment she was off to her sister's, calling for her and not finding her, opened the door and swiped the necklace and earrings in question, left a note that she was borrowing them for a short time and they should get together soon.
The next moment found Harmonia in front of the doors to the palace. Hopefully, Hera was within. The doors were large and somewhat intimidating, and suddenly Balance was terrified. This had the distinct possibility of not being a pleasant reunion. There were many things she was unhappy with Hera about and Hera probably had just as much cause to be unhappy with her -especially because she had failed to keep Semele from getting herself involved with Zeus and thereby forcing Hera to take matters into her own hands.
Deep breath. Deep breath. She just had to open... oh... the door was opening. That was convenient. Someone Balance didn't recognize was leaving, might have been a messenger or attendant, but she used that opportunity to go inside without actually having to touch the door herself. Inside there were attendants moving about. Now what?
“Excuse me,” she said to the first one she saw. “Is... Is Hera in today? Can you or someone let her know that I'm... that her granddaughter is here to see her?” She took another deep breath. “I'll... I'll just wait here.” At which point she folded her hands together in front of her and waited patiently for either someone to take her to Hera, Hera to come get her, or to be told she was not going to be seen today. Part of her hoped for the latter.
