When Dreams Do Show Me Thee (Tag: Bragi)
[Before Bragi wakes up from his head trauma coma...]
Idun opened her eyes. There was a feeling somewhere deep in her bones that told her that Bragi was still very much asleep. Somewhere nearby, his breathing was shallow and even, and it would have been very easy for her to listen to that wonderful lullaby and fall asleep with her face nuzzled against the crook of his neck. But Idun knew she couldn't do that. That was another one of the feelings locked deep in her bones. Bragi needed to be awake. He needed to be awake in the same way that rings needed to be green and feet needed to wander. It was very simple. It was just a fact, and so Idun took a few curious steps forward in search of her slumbering husband, and as she walked, the milky darkness rolled away and was replaced by a very, very green forest.
If she looked close enough, she would see the bird that Bragi had scared off when they first met, perched in the very tree where that meeting had taken place. The epiphany tree. Not far off was another tree, this one not far from a narrow dirt path. A broken net swayed gently in the warm breeze. Idun didn't look very closely, but only because she had found Bragi. He was asleep at his desk, the one in the lecture hall, not the one in their home. It made her chuckle. Of course he was sleeping between classes.
He looked rather sweet, curled up as he was in that silly desk chair. It took all the restraint Idun could muster to keep from brushing a rogue curl from Bragi's forehead.
She chose to hop onto the dresser instead. It was rather conveniently located where the front row of lecture hall seating was usually found. They must have been remodeling. Bragi was always telling her that she wasn't allowed to sit on dressers, but he was asleep. He needed to be awake. The formula seemed rather simple to follow. Idun glanced at the chalk board that had just been wheeled in behind Bragi's slumbering form by the stage crew. Yes, the board had the formula spelled out rather simply.
Dresser Sitting + Idun = Awake Bragi
Idun smiled rather smugly at the equation, then leaned down to open one of the small top drawers, the one where Bragi sometimes kept his socks. Instead of pulling out wooly foot coverings, Idun extracted a shiny red apple, which she promptly tossed in Bragi's direction. The fruit landed directly in his lap, and Idun was the picture of innocence as soon as it made contact. Her hair was combed back into a simple ponytail and her lips were painted red to match her nails. The skirt of her dress was a bit fuller than the ones she normally wore, but Bragi had really liked those full poodle skirts from days gone by. The neckline of her dress was a bit low, in order to compensate. She folded her hands in her lap. Innocence.
Complete, irrefutable innocence.
A bird flew through the lecture hall and landed in one of the background trees. Another warm breeze entered, stage left. The lights were raised.
