Something… (tag: Ahti)
Something was wrong. He did not know what it was, but something was not right here. Nergal had come here for a battle, but there was just something…. Something different. He just could not put his finger on what exactly it was. But if something, or someone, were messing with his war he would be very unhappy.
He walked around the battleground, not worrying at all about getting shot. There was not much shooting going on. That was the first troubling part of this scenario. Then there were the civilians running around. He was not above using civilians in war, but this was not right. They were not part of the battle; they were just disrupting it.
There was none of the usual grace and beauty that he saw in battle. None of the rules were being followed. This was just chaos. He did not think the soldiers were even fighting each other any longer. There just seemed to be an incredible about of looting and fights in the streets. It was not right at all. He wanted a war not a riot. Not this huge example of chaos.
Chaos. Of course that was the answer. One of those meddlesome chaos deities was interfering with his work. He did not know which one, only that it was not a Sumerian. They all knew better than to mess in his business. But there were many others from many other pantheons that had not yet learned that lesson. They would now.
“Show yourself!” he yelled. One of the soldiers ran into him and said something unkind about Nergal’s mother. The Beast of War growled, pulled his knife and slit the soldier’s throat before the insult was finished. He would feel better when the blood on hiss hand belonged to whoever interrupted his battle. “Come out and face me.”
