“Hey!” Thoth smiled the second he heard Bes' voice and turned around from the spot where he had just been pouring himself a drink “You just missed Seshat.” Then he finished pouring some scotch into one glass, handed it out for Bes to take it if he wanted it before pouring another for himself. It was either tea or scotch, and the scotch sounded far more appealing at the moment. Especially when an old friend was visiting.
Returning to his desk, Thoth looked down at some wrappings that were laying there and a small, hardcover book. “Look,” he said, picking up the book with a childlike glee and handing it to his old friend. It was just by luck that he didn't have this particular book in his library and had to wonder if she didn't do some reconnaissance work in his home to see if he had it already or not.
Which, surprisingly, he didn't. It combined three things he loved: books, philosophy and bad jokes. It was perfect. Oh, she knew him so well.
“Things are great” he said and sat in the nearest chair. Thoth didn't think he needed to bother to invite Bes to sit, they'd known each other long enough that the invitation would be implied. A sip of the scotch later and the old Egyptian took a deep breathe while savoring the flavor. It it was a good scotch. A good sipping scotch. “A bit wet outside, it's taking a bit more effort than usual to keep the library properly climate controlled.” With all the flooding in England, it was hardly surprising. “And with the Olympics around the corner... well... it's been a busy area.”
