Expectations [Hera/Hebe/Enyo/Eris]
Posting Order: Zeus, Hera, Eris, Enyo, Hebe
This had to have been Hera's idea, he thought to himself as he drummed his fingers along the table in the informal dining room of his palace on Olympus. It wasn't that he despised his children with Hera, quite the opposite in terms of Hebe and Illythia, but some of them were quite difficult and tended to cause him moments of disgust where Zeus couldn't help but wonder if it was really worth claiming them as his own. Three troublemakers: Ares, Enyo and Eris. They tended to cause him more headache than pride. True, they could be useful, but that was only on an occasional basis and he didn't find there was ever much need to interact with them when they weren't needed.
Which was precicely why inviting Eris and Enyo to dinner had to have been Hera's idea. Hebe, on the other hand, was perfect. Zeus adored her. She was always welcome at their table. Thankfully, Ares was off being Ares and would not be present. The King wasn't entirely sure he could stomach a dinner with him if Enyo and Eris were also present. It was almost as if they fed off each other's energy.
Raising them, at times, had made his Athena-induced migraine seem like a picnic.
Part of him would have rather they gone out somewhere in the silent hopes that the two troublemakers in question would be encouraged to behave, but Zeus turned that idea aside knowing that it wouldn't take much more than for Enyo to find a thumbprint of outside origin on her water glass for a server to be skewered with her salad fork milliseconds before he or Hera would have a chance to intervene. Then Eris would get distracted while he tried to do damage control at the restaurant among the mortals to assure them that they certainly did not need to get the local authorities involved and that would be the end of a peaceful dinner.
This was why he chose Olympus. He could dole out whatever punishment he needed to if bad behavior was present in his palace. And he would do just that if things even slipped marginally from what was expected.
It was expected that they all behave in a manner that would not cause his ire to raise. It was anticipated that Hebe would be her usual perfect, pretty and perky self. It was anticipated that Enyo would be well put together but that under the wrappings secretly hoping that someone cut themselves on a knife and bled out. It was anticipated that Eris would be late because something far more interesting than having dinner with her parents had come up. It was expected, however, that they all be prompt and well dressed.
He took a sip of his wine as he waited and looked at his wife. “Fifty Euros says Eris will be late.”
