Retail Therapy (tag: Hebe)
After the messy business of tracking down a wayward nymph and dealing with not only the paperwork involved, but all of the collateral irritation because of her husband's involvement with one of the players, Hera was more than ready for a break. Unfortunately, she was not exactly in the position of simply being able to put a “gone fishin'” sign on her office door and stepping out. There were a thousand little things that had to be dealt with, people that needed to be motivated, things to be put in place, just so that she could have a few moments of time to herself without worrying about interruption later. It took time, but finally, she was set. She was free.
Now... what to do with herself? Hera had a few hobbies. Well, she had a few hobbies that were publicly seen and accepted to be hers. Things like playing the piano and collecting particular antiques. She was also a skilled equestrian. Those were the sorts of things expected of a lady and a queen. Though she did not, and would never, dabble in arts and crafts as Frigg did. Why the woman thought it was acceptable to act like a frumpish, middle-aged, mortal housewife, Hera had no idea. There was nothing wrong with frumpish, middle-aged, mortal housewives... if you happened to be one. But a queen? Should leave those sorts of pursuits to other goddesses to oversee.
Then again, Hera had more than a few unconventional hobbies that she shared with no one. It wouldn't do to have it known that the Queen of the Gods was a soap opera and telenovela addict. Nor did she exactly want it to get out that she enjoyed something like locksport. There were simply certain activities she preferred to do alone to keep them for her own private enjoyment.
However, she wasn't in the mood to be totally alone. Mentally, she ran through the list of possible companions and what they could do together. It was a rather depressingly short list, but then, Hera held people at arms' length for a reason. She would have called Iris, as she always enjoyed her messengers company, but she was fairly certain the Titaness was still working on the last task that had been given to her. Or she would have reported in already.
Which led her to the idea of spending some time with some of her children. Not Ares. He was far too busy these days, which mean that Enyo was probably working hard as well and Hera did not wish to intrude on their duties. She was so very proud of them for being so good at what they did. Hephaestos... the very thought of spending an extended period of time with him made her wrinkle her nose in distaste. She already saw far too much of Ilithyia because of the responsibilities they shared. Which left...
“Hebe,” she called mentally. “If you are not busy, darling, come to my private rooms.”
Though the words were a request, the tone was a command. Hera knew no other way to be, and really, she had worked too hard to get a bit of free time to waste it if her daughter felt like dawdling. Hence the reason she then added, “Now, if you please.”
