Deep Thinking (tag: Bes)
Anubis had spent the last couple of months wandering though Egypt as a jackal and doing his duties in the Underworld. He handled his work first and then journeyed through the Valley of the Kings. He hadn’t checked on the tombs of the pharaohs in quite some time and needed to make sure they were as he had left them. He didn’t trust archeologists or grave robbers to respect the final resting-places of the old kings. There were still a few tombs that were hidden in the desert sands.
That was what he told himself, anyway. The truth was, the Embalmer was brooding. He had found that it was easier to brood as a jackal. Fewer people bothered him as a wild animal and he could be alone with his thoughts.
Right now he was thinking about his family.
It bothered him quite a bit that Bast had not believed him when he said he was ruling Egypt during Isis and Horus’ absences. He was a son of Osiris just like Horus was. Hell, he was even older than Horus was. He should have the right to rule if he wanted to. Trouble was, he ddidn’t want to. He had been so happy when Isis cam back. He could not wait to give her back the throne. Isis was a much better replacement for her son then Nubie was.
But dammit, Bast didn’t have to act like he was telling a joke.
It was all over and done with. Isis was back where she belonged and Nubie was free from the burdens of being a ruler. But his mood would not improve. He just could not find anything that would snap him out of this latest round off brooding. He certainly did not want to run into his adopted sister while he was like this. Her attempts to make him feel better, sometimes made it worse. And if she were in a bad mood, then the desert would be in big trouble.
He did have one good idea on how to improve his mood. Something that had always managed to make him smile in the past. Turning from his jackal form back to the handsome young man he usually was, Anubis was able to make it easily to his destination. He entered the temple of Bes and looked around.
“I always forget. Do I sacrifice a virgin or just throw money to get your attention?”
