Out for a Hunt [tag: Artemis]
Skadhi was pleased, so pleased she had a half-grin on her face. She was in her element, the wild and she was doing one of the things she did best. Hunting. There were any number of things she could hunt while in the wild of the North, her sights were set on bagging a Reindeer.
She certainly wasn't above trophy hunting, going after large animals for little reason than to have their hides, but there wasn't much fun in that when Ullr wasn't around. Besides, other than the creature she found in the mountains with that insipid little Egyptian, she'd hunted damn near every other creature on the planet worth hunting.
But today she was in it for the meat. Nothing said a spring day with a friend like hunting followed by fresh rack of reindeer for dinner. And there would fresh rack of reindeer if Skadhi had anything to say about it.
Gesturing to Artemis, Skadhi gave the signal to move forward through the woods. They'd been stalking the herd for a mile already with no visual. Just hoof prints and fecal matter on the ground. Though she could hear them in the distance now, makding their odd Reindeer sounds. A noise that couldn't quite be called a bellar or a bleat.
They were catching up to them, As an added bonus, they were downwind, so unless they were loud enough to give their presence away, the reindeer shouldn't see it coming. And both of them were experienced enough hunters to know how to move silently through the wild. Not like those so called hunters in Northern America who sat in tree-stands, drunk as a skunk and waiting for a deer to happen by.
No. Skadhi and Artemis were women of action. They didn't sit by and wait for the herd to come to them. Nor did they drink while on the job. They were professionals.
Spear in one hand, bow slung over her back, Skadhi started carefully moving through the dense forest. She knew this forest well. Soon they would come to a clearing and there they would find in the reindeer herd.
