Her eyes grew wide, and she had to consciously remind herself to pick her chin up off the floor and close her mouth. While she had often thought of Set as a toad, the very idea of seeing him as one was not something she could ever have anticipated. Set? Is that you?
She sent the silent thought out and was astonished to see the toad blink.
With the initial shock over, she started to take a good look at the creature in the glass case. Crowned and caped, on a little toadstool throne. She had to admit, it was creative. She'd heard of pheasant under glass, but this? Oh, the humiliation he must be suffering!
"I must say...I...that is..." she couldn't help it. If his captor was preparing for a challenge, he was much mistaken. What he got instead was pealing laughter.
She tipped her head to get a better look. "I have to say, he looks much better than the last time I saw him. But are you sure he's getting enough air in there. I mean, he won't croak in there, will he?" The use of the incredibly bad pun showed just how much mirth she was feeling over this latest development. I don't think I even want to know what you did to get yourself in this predicament.
Was it really possible for a toad to give someone one of those looks that could kill? Because that's what she would have sworn she had just seen.
