Rating & Warnings: R for murder.
It had been a strange few days for Nadya and under normal circumstances she would have balked at all, but when it was all over and dealt with, she knew that she'd done much good. Much of it had gone unsaid, especially where Lyzander and her father were concerned; how to explain to them that she'd basically spent two days and nights in Lybvian General Hospital, looking over both Brad and Wade? Even if Brad wasn't one of her own, not a Darkhart, he was still a friend of the family and that was more than enough for the woman. And while she did that, Nathan was turning Silver City upside down, looking for the killer. Not one Darkhart would wait for the Gunslingers to bring justice. And no Darkhart would bow before them either, or before the Queen. Demons were demons, always forces to be reckoned with. And by now, Nadya had seen enough Blackthornes being pulled out of the equation. First Marcus and Isabella, then Lillith and now an attack on presumed Blackthorne offspring? Oh, they had a lot of guts, the vampires who had done this to them, especially the Queen. Nadya was absolutely certain that if they ever came face to face, that she would be able squish her like a bug before anyone else would be able to react. And that was reason enough for her to stay away from any official functions the queen was rumored to go to. Temptation was big, but fortunately common sense managed to keep from any suicide missions. Lybvian's bright lights passed her by as the car rode through the city, her children long ago having abandoned her in favor for the numerous clubs that could be found. Without Nathan, Nadya saw no reason to frequent Lybvian's or Silver City's hotspots, and she knew for certain that Lyzander wouldn't be out tonight. The Crown Prince had enough work to do. So, she was homeward bound, with plans to return to Silver City tomorrow afternoon. But as she and her guard neared the beach home, it was illuminated. Someone was home. But who? Nathan? Unlikely. Wade or Noni? Again, pretty unlikely; the night was young, after all. It took a few more moments for the car to be parked on the driveway and for Nadya to walk to the house. A few words, short but clear, held the guard back from scouting out the home. With a gentle gesture of her fingers, the air pushed against the door, and it quietly opened. Quietened footsteps brought her toward the kitchen, where she stared at the kitchen counter. Brownies. And the smell of beer. Not Nathan. Definitely not Wade, if he knew what was good for him, or Noni. "Dree?" She wasn't surprised that he'd found her; the press had followed her steps ever since she'd come to Lybvian. And this was, admittedly, plenty of warning for his presence. |
