Greetings, one and all! I'm new to these parts and I bring a living vampire in the form of Lucia Vargas, sister to Desi and Rafe, and aunt to Rosa. She's fairly well known in town, given her place in the family's (super legal) empire but I would love to work out connections with you all. Publicly, Lucia is your average demure and collected matriarch who wouldn't hurt a fly. Privately, she's got a bit of a Lady MacBeth streak going. If it serves the family, then it's perfectly fine by her.

Friends? Frenemies? Lovers new and old? Hit me up.

Hello~ I'm Kia and I play a few characters with Vargas family connections. Namely, Rafe (

totalknockout) who would absolutely love to pester his big sister. I also play Patrick Edding (

high_born) who is in the process of becoming the Vargas family attorney. Shay (

yayforshay) who is Desi's rebellious helot and I also play Mads (

lolyoumad) who is a crime boss from another state that is looking to do business with Desi.

Hello, hello! I read over Rafe while I was working on Lucia. She definitely lets him get away with murder because he's the baby of the family. Or he was, before Rosa came along. He sounds lovely.

Patrick's icon would be enough to whet my appetite even without the Vargas family connection. Lucia would appreciate what he can do for her and her siblings. They can be polite at each other (and politely snide to everyone else).

I've heard about Shay! Lucia won't be too thrilled with her rebellious ways but she's a softer touch than Desi and there's a lot she'll do to keep the peace.

Mads may be just slippery enough to get into Lucia's good graces. Whether the same can be said for her, I don't know. But I would love to find out. He's a lot like her eldest brother and that obviously appeals to her.

Shay's main issue is that she hates feeling like a slave. Like she knows she's a slave and there's not much she can do about it, but she still wants to be treated like a person. She has this mentality that nobody owns her. So she might be more apt to obey Lucia if she is a softer touch than Desi.

Patrick would get along with Lucia marvelously. They could even have had a history? She could be the one to refer him to Desi?

Mads is. He's getting antsy lol. So that'll be interesting

Makes perfect sense. Much will depend on how Shay and Lucia's interactions. There's built-in deference toward Desi, at least in public, and then there's that whole honey/bees/vinegar affair. Very excited to see this play out.

They certainly could. I'd like that very much. Unfortunately, Lucia doesn't have much in the way of formal schooling or I would've said they can have an alma mater in common. As it stands, perhaps they met at some hoity-toity shindig and hit it off?

	Hi! I'm Karen. I haven't done it yet but I'm going to bring in Mateo, the second oldest of the Vargas siblings! So we shall have to plot. Also if you'd like to do anything with Will (deaf helot belonging to Nicholas Edding) that would be lovely. Hi Karen! You bet we'll have to plot. I have high hopes for this family of dangerous people being dangerous at everyone but each other.

Will makes my heart ache. We could consider the possibility of past acquaintance? Lucia isn't really the type to patronize brothels, but there's nothing to say Cameron couldn't have owed them money - perhaps she went there to apply pressure and crossed paths with Will? She's not above using helots for their intended purpose and he's very pretty.

What do you have in mind for Brandon?

Ugh, I wrote this all out yesterday and then my computer threw a fit and it didn't post. Okay, let's try again.

I'm really excited for Mateo's relationship with the rest of the Vargas. He'll be very protective of his family, particularly his siblings and their child(ren), of course, but I see him as the more level headed of them, or at least the least hotheaded of the brothers. Very middle child in that sense. I definitely foresee him being a peace keeper, the one who enforces civility at family dinners when tensions arise and the one who tries to mediate when family members get mad at each other.

I love the idea of Lucia knowing Will already. I was talking with Duncan's mun about a plot with him and Will, where Duncan is suing Cameron for abuse/neglect of his helots, so maybe Lucia could be involved since it sounds like she's friends with Duncan. Perhaps Cameron owed the Vargas money, as you said, and now she hates Cameron, so she's the one who turned Duncan on to the whole situation.

As far as Lucia borrowing/using Will, I am TOTALLY down for that. We'll have to talk with Anna ooc/Nicholas ic about it, since he owns Will, but I bet Anna will be willing to come up with a way for it to work so that we can plot.

There's also a possibility that Lucia knew Will even before he was at Cameron's, because maybe his childhood owner was someone who did business with the Vargas or worked for them. Maybe she took an interest in the cute little deaf slave or something. Idk, I'm down for anything, mostly.

As far as Brandon goes, I didn't have a lot of specific ideas in mind, just that he's going to need friends for sure. He's going to be in a pretty vulnerable state, so getting swept into a crime empire is honestly something that could happen to him right now. He's going to be making a lot of bad decisions, self destructive ones that he knows are bad ideas. He just got out of a long, controlling relationship and in a lot of ways he doesn't know how to be on his own right now, without someone making decisions for him.

Brilliant ideas are brilliant.

I'm on board with the Duncan/Cameron plot! Lucia is certainly vindictive enough to rob Cameron of his helots (legally) in order to settle a debt. And if Will happened to be among the helots in question, she'd definitely remember him - all the more so if she knew him before he came into Cameron's possession. Could be one of those 'oh you have a thing I like and you're an asshole? Well, let me call up my lawyer friend' scenarios, where her familiarity with Will - I have a feeling she has a (well hidden) soft spot for children, particularly since she helped raise her brother's daughter - contributed to how hard she went after Cameron... Well, she didn't, but she knows people (ie. Duncan) who would. And she's all about utilizing other people's skills.

Present-day fun with Lucia and Will would be lovely, too, even if it's not something pre-planned. Not sure how we'd go about it - maybe she's visiting with Nicholas one day and it comes about that way? - but I've no doubt we'll figure it out.

Re: Mateo, Lucia loves her family dearly and she'll welcome the presence of another peacekeeper at the dinner table. Very excited for this.

I feel bad for Brandon already. Which probably means Lucia will be of no help trying to keep him out of the Vargas family troubles. Sorry not sorry, Brandon.

Yay I'm really excited about that plot! And I'm sure there are many ways to have Will and Lucia run into each other. He walks to the park a lot, so he could run into her on the way or in the park, or while he's running an errand for Nic.

I'm writing Mateo right now actually. :) I very much see him, Desi, and Lucia as kind of being a team. Mateo is only 11 months younger than Desi and they were in the same grade in school (summer birthdays) so people thought they were twins a lot when they were kids. The two are thick as thieves. But I see Mat being close to Lucia too, moreso than Rafa because of the age gap. So while Desi is the head, Lucia is the matriarch, and Mat is the second in command, I was thinking of them as being a united front. Mat would defer to both of his sibling's decisions, but they'd take his opinions very seriously too. They have power over him in a technical sense but never need to use it because he would never act against them.

I actually love the idea of Brandon getting swept up into the Vargas mafia, much as it may or may not be a good thing hahaha.

Oh, yes please. I'm a sucker for family dynamics and powerful characters being super invested in each other's lives (perhaps past the point of what is healthy) is right up my alley. I suspect Lucia occasionally goes to Mat rather than Desi when she has a concern. Why bother their eldest, who has enough on his mind, if it's something/someone they can deal with themselves?

I love the idea that their family isn't strong because the alpha male coerces submission from the other members but because they're all invested in making the family succeed. The power they have over each other isn't as important as the restraint they have in using it willy-nilly. Sure, Desi could twist arms and order them about, but he's smarter than that. Mateo doesn't lord his power over the rest of his siblings. Lucia doesn't sabotage their relationships to get her way, etc. In their own, weird way, they're pretty well-adjusted.

	Yes exactly! I love it. They don't order each other around much because they don't have to, they'd rather cooperate with each other. But at the same time if one of the lower ranking members disobeyed one of his siblings, Mat wouldn't stand for it. His dangerous side would come out, for sure. 	Rosa! These two are going to be thick as thieves... hopefully. Lucia dotes on her and has done so since Rosa was a baby. I write

killerthom Thomas Vantine, he was hired by Daddy Vargas when Lucia was younger and has been working with the family ever since as their gunman. Desi still forces him to show up to a monthly dinner and he's a bit of a ham to try and ruffle Desi's feathers even though he loves the family like his own.

Other than that I have

ottiley Ottiley who may be a person of interest at some point since she likely shops at Lucia's fashion boutique and has been spending some time with Desi as of late.

Hi, Anna! No worries at all. I know this was a busy week for you USians. :)

Lucia and Thomas quite likely get along like a house on fire. She's not the sort to encourage ruffling Desi's feathers... publicly, that is. Covertly, she very likely enjoys Thomas's attempts and knows they come from a place of affection and fondness.

I've heard things about Desi and Ottiley. I would love to thread her and Lucia at some point, get a sense of how they like each other. I'd very much like it if they were friendly.

Thomas really does adore the family and would put his life on the line for any one of them but yeah he has a special place in his heart for making Desi roll his eyes.

Ottiley and Lucia can likely run into one another at her boutique since I can't see Lucia hunting her down at the Orchid Lounge where she dances. At this point she'd be very surprised to meet any of his family members since the two of them have been pretty clear with one another they're not looking to date. Ottiley would be very respectful, it would be nice if they could be friends.
