Ted had been back within the castle walls for nearly 24 hours now, and still Andromeda hadn't seen him. It wasn't that she hadn't wanted to; if anything, she'd been going half-mad with the need to see him, touch him, hear his voice, provide what little comfort she could. But she didn't want to push; and to a certain extent, she wasn't sure she had a right to see him, either. That his parents had died mysteriously and while the infamously volatile Bellatrix was away from school so soon after Andromeda had announced her blood traitorous feelings for the boy simply could not be coincidence. And furthermore, Ted had to have realized it, too. How, then, could she hope to provide the least bit of comfort from a pain that she had unquestionably caused?
Still, not even Andromeda Black had it in her to be discreet and keep out of the way forever. I'll just see him, she reasoned as she walked, her pace brisk and her eyes downcast, in the direction of the Ravenclaw tower. Just for a moment, just enough to make sure he is all right. As well as can be expected. Then I will leave him be for as long as he needs me to. Forever, if that's how it is to be.
Fortunately, her arrival at Ted's common room coincided with that of a fourth year Ravenclaw, who was quickly persuaded to see if Mr. Tonks was in, though he looked rather surprised at being asked anything by the notoriously shy Meda. Once the boy had disappeared into the Tower, the girl stood back from the entranceway, her expression composed, the only outward signs of her discomposure the ramrod-straight posture of her spine and the way her hands were twisting together.
