Who: Rodolphus, Edward Williamson, Dumbledore Where: Hallways then Dumbly's office What: Ro gets caught When: 12:30ish Tuesday night Wed morning
Tonight had been fantastic. For years Rodolphus had been killing animals, mostly rabbits and the deer he could find. Killing animals had been something Rodolphus had thrived off of. He’d never been as happy, nor as focused when killing. The hours after were positively joyful, and they had been hours Rabastan was completely spared. Of all his killings, nothing had prepared him for this. Tonight was the absolute best evening in all of Rodolphus’ life. There was nothing in his memory that came remotely close, and he wasn’t sure anything ever wound. Rodolphus had no doubt in his mind that he would kill a human over having sex, which was quite the statement. Since Rodolphus had lost his virginity, sex had been his utmost favourite activity. But then again, it had never given him quite the rush that tonight had.
The screams replayed in Rodolphus’ mind. It had been Bellatrix’s idea to torture them, Rodolphus suspected she wanted to see their blood. Once they’d started, it had been Rodolphus’ idea to use the cruciatus curse. The pair of them had made quite the team, and Rodolphus thought the Tonks would have been able to see that in their last dying moments. Although Rodolphus had killed multiple times, he’d never used the killing curse. The words had flown easily from his mouth, easier than he’d expected. Rodolphus had always read about the psychological impact the first kill had on a human – he hadn’t felt any remorse.
In Rodolphus’ joy, he had become sloppy. While he’d used the same tunnel he’d taken to every meeting with the Dark Lord, Rodolphus hadn’t checked the hallways. It took the boy by surprise when his body grew rigid, and he couldn’t move. ”What the hell?” Rodolphus thought. Suddenly he was in the air and moving down the hallway. “Whatcha doin’ out of bed, son?” a voice asked. It quickly all came together – an Auror had caught Rodolphus. What time was it? Definitely past curfew. “Ah, we’ll find out soon enough.”
It felt like hours, but Rodolphus knew it was only minutes until his body was climbing stairs and found its way into Dumbledore’s office. The charm was released, and Rodolphus fell crashing to the ground. “Heh, sorry kid,” the voice said, not sounding sorry one bit. Dumbledore used his wand to bring a chair to Rodolphus, and the 7th year quickly sat in it. If Dumbledore checked his wand, Rodolphus would be going to Azkaban. Fuck! How could he have been so stupid?
“Mister Lestrange,” Dumbledore began, “this is Mr. Williamson,” he said while motioning to the man who had caught Rodolphus. “He will be sitting in on this meeting, and escorting you back to your house when we’re through. Now, why were you in the hallways after midnight?”
Rodolphus glanced at the Auror, who was positively disgusting. Wasn’t there a physical requirement for this job? The bloke surely didn’t walk anywhere. “I lost track of time sir,” Rodolphus said. Denial was always the best, right?
“Oh?” Dumbledore questioned. “Is there a reason you’re wearing an outdoor cloak then?”
“Uh, no sir. I must have put it on by mistake.”
“Hm,” Dumbledore began. The Headmaster knew the boy was lying, but he was a student. Dumbledore did not want to give him any potions or break into his mind.
“I was with Lucius Malfoy, sir. He had taken points and told me to go back to Slytherin right away, I must have been distracted on the way back,” Rodolphus quickly added. He knew Dumbledore would talk to Lucius, and Rodolphus could only pray Lucius would go along with the story.
“Alright, I’ll owl him,” Dumbledore replied. He quickly scribbled the message ‘Did you see Rodolphus Lestrange around midnight this evening?’ on a piece of parchment. In retrospect, Dumbledore should have asked ‘What were you doing around midnight’ or something of the sort. It didn’t take long for Lucius Malfoy to respond with a positive answer. “Your story checks out, and I have no further questions. For now. I will be taking thirty points from Slytherin, and you will be assisting Mr. Flich for the next four Fridays. He will require you to clean Mrs. Norris’s litter box, bathe her, and brush her. I’m sure you’ll be required to play with her, and get her some activity as well.”
“Yes sir,” Rodolphus replied. Edward roughly grabbed his arm, and it was a long walk back to Slytherin.
