Who: Lily Evans and Severus Snape When: BACKDATED to October 6th; shortly after this exchange (and before Lily freaked out with anger at James, because I don't feel like playing her angry right now.) Where: The Great Hall What: Meeting for ice cream and potential partial reconciliation. Status/Rating: Incomplete/PG-13 at least for probably innuendo (in YOUR end-o!)
It wasn't that Lily Evans had forgiven Severus Snape. It was just that she wanted ice cream very badly.
At least, that's what she told herself as she descended the steps of Gryffindor tower, heading in the direction of the Great Hall.
It didn't sound convincing even in her own mind.
Truly, she wanted to be furious with him, still and for all time. He'd called her a mudblood; he'd broken her trust, shattered it with one word, hurt her and meant to and that was unforgivable. No, what was unforgivable was his use of that word at all. Anyone who used it had to think that it meant something, on some level, and anyone who thought that who she was and where she came from made her less of a person was unforgivable.
But Lily's anger burned fierce and hot and bright, and like even the most ferocious flash fire, it couldn't keep burning without fuel. She had barely spoken to Severus since September, and since then her anger had, for the most part, burned itself out. And she'd started to miss her best friend quite fiercely. It had been so easy to fall back into banter with him like nothing had ever changed. It had felt so good. What he'd done should have forsaken her friendship forever; but she just wasn't built to give up on anyone she cared about, and she'd always truly cared about Sev. She'd never trust him again like she once had; never again would she consider him her truest, closest friend.
But maybe they could be friendly, nevertheless.
It was better than nothing.
She entered the Great Hall without hesitation, glancing around to see if the Slytherin had made it there before her or if he was yet to arrive.
