Rita was a busy woman. She had lots of things to do--homework, gossip, the usual. But right now she had a more noble task to complete, one that was going to take up a great deal of her time. She had to find out more about what was happening, and to do that, she had to find a way to get information without being detected. She didn't know if she would report it in her journal or tell the Daily Prophet (could she do that now, with the school closed off?) or tell Professor Dumbledore, but someone had to be on top of things.
Thus: Animagi.
She knew Professor McGonagall was one and that she could probably receive tutoring from her, but that would mean admitting that she had an aspiration to a noble cause, and that would have been humiliating. And besides, that would mean she had to be registered. She would not allow that to happen. No one could know that she was--would become--an Animagus. It was important, deeply important, that only she could know of this. She couldn't even tell Gilderoy.
Thankfully, books on Animagi were not considered material unfit for the eyes of students, so she didn't have to break into the Restricted Section. She retrieved a very thick, dusty tome from deep in the library's shelves and took it to a seat, opening it to the first page. She narrowed her eyes a little, trying to focus on the text; it took her a moment, and she had to lean in, closer to the page. She'd been having a little trouble lately with her vision. Maybe she needed glasses. Oh, the horror.
