From his upper level loft, Jack watched Ianto as he moved stiffly through the operations section. It was just the two of them left in the complex, Jack had ordered the rest of the team to head for home half an hour ago, citing their need to put some space between themselves and the man working woodenly below. He didn't want them going after Ianto for bringing in Lisa and endangering the Hub, and the world in general.
Not until he had time to address the problem himself.
As he stood there, Ianto staggered against Tosh's work station. He put a hand down against the desk to steady himself, shaking his head to clear his vision, probably thinking it was nothing more than the events of the night catching up. After all, he'd been thrown across the complex and smashed brutally against the far wall. Had been unconscious for long minutes. It would make sense in his sluggish brain.
Jack bent and pressed the intercom. "You might want to sit down, Ianto."
The younger man craned his neck, fear shining from his eyes as he asked, "You did something to me?"
Jack crossed his arms over his broad chest and tipped his head up arrogantly.
The world spinning faster now, Ianto slumped down into Tosh's chair, nearly slipping out of it when it began a slow twist. He grabbed at the desk top for support. "Poison?"
Jack trotted down the stairs and ambled across the floor, his heels click-clanking on the metal grating. "Don't be melodramatic." His voice was cold as an Arctic draft. "What good would killing you do?"
Ianto's eyes rolled up in his head and his body slid slowly from it's perch.
Jack caught him as he drifted down, lifting him high against his chest.
^^^^
Cold.
Ianto's body quivered with the cold sweeping in wave after shivering wave over his body where he lie on some hard surface.
His very naked body.
When had he undressed? The last thing he remembered was clearing the rubble and chaos created by the battle to stop Lisa. He felt suddenly dizzy, and Jack...
He shook his head. Don't remember. Dangerous to remember.
Too late, that. A tear bled from his still closed eyes as he remembered that nightmare of reality. Jack had warned him, execute her or he would execute them both. He shuddered.
Jack had meant it. His rage was beyond comprehension, hitting Ianto as hard as the stars falling from the sky. At that moment, that betrayal, Jack hated him more than anything he'd ever hated before. And Ianto suspected jack could hate completely.
Ianto had actually tried to obey, to kill Lisa. He could not bring himself to do it. No matter what she had done, who she had killed, this had been his Lisa. He could not, no matter what, couldn't end the hope.
So Jack had done it. Just like he'd vowed he would. His had been the first shot. The others had followed his example and Lisa, in Annie's body, had danced a drunken marionette's dance of death.
Lying there, his eyes still clenched tight, the macabre events played out behind his closed eyes over and over. It hurt. Oh, God, it hurt like being pulled over splintered glass, each tiny shard digging deep, festering in his flesh. He was certain that if he moved, his body would crumble, breaking apart for the sheer grief numbing him to everything.
Jack had said he would kill him if he didn't execute Lisa. Ianto knew, beyond a shadow of doubt that Jack would carry out his execution. He had promised. So what was he waiting for. Why was Ianto still breathing icy air and ....
"Ready to stop pretending to be asleep, Ianto?"
Ianto's eyes snapped open, his head turning toward the frigid voice. "Jack."
Jack sat a foot from the glassed in cell, his chin resting on arms crossed over the back of a wooden straight backed chair. "I think we have a few things to talk about, don't you?"
"Do we?" Ianto pushed himself up, twisting so his feet hit the ice cold stone floor. tipping hi head so his chin rested on his chest, he sucked in a breath against the chill and pulled his feet back up onto the bed, sitting cross-legged, exposed. Submissive. "You took my cloths."
"Yeah, guess I did at that." Licking his lips hungrily, Jack's gaze took a lazy stroll over Ianto's nudity, settling on his groin. A sly smile curved his lips. "Wanted to see you naked since day one, did you know that?" He sighed through a bitter chuckle, sitting up straight. "But that was part of your plan, wasn't it? Fog your traitorous behavior by getting me hot for you." His smile was mocking. "You played the game perfectly. Gave me just enough to keep me wanting more. I've been working through a head full of naughty thoughts with you playing the starring role." Jack sighed again, getting to his feet. "But that's not what we're here for, is it? We're here because you have some explaining to do."
"I would have thought my actions were all the explanation you would need." Nibbling at this lower lip, Ianto took the time to glance around him. He realized with a start that he was not in the cells were the weevil and other aliens were housed. "Where is here?"
Jack's grin was cold, cruel, sending a shiver that had nothing to do with the cold through Ianto. "Private cells. Secret panel in my quarters opens into this place. Figured it would be a good idea to keep your presence here under wraps from the others. Can't have them feeling sorry for you, can we?"
"Hardly think there is any danger of that." Ianto couldn't pull his gaze from the ice of Jack's eyes. He swallowed thickly. "What are you going to do?"
Jack's grin narrowed into a brittle, false smile. "That would be telling." He ambled toward an exit, turning back with a hand on the frame. "You're just going to have to find out on your own." Another cruel smile ghosted over his lips. "When it happens."
And then he was gone.
Ianto sprang to his feet and darted across the cell to press his palms against the unbreakable glass. He opened his mouth the call out, then changed his mind. Jack needed time. Time to ..what? Forgive? Not bloody likely, that. Ianto had burned whatever bridges he might have had with the man. With the entire team. He could only wait and see what lie ahead.
He didn't hold out any hope that any of it was going to be good.
Fisting his hands, he dropped his forehead against the glass and let his tears fall.
^^^^
Ianto went from freezing to broiling in mere minutes. His shivering skidded to a halt mid tremor and the sweat broke out all over his body as it tried to adjust to the rapid temperature change.
The sudden change staggered him. He just barely managed to cross the cell and slump into a human puddle on the cot.
Five minutes into the crippling heat, Ianto's eyes rolled back in his head, strolling round... staring at things found only in a nightmare.
His screams cut the air, only stopping when he passed out.
