I realised I should introduce some characters! Not that they're being particularly active in my head atm but...
Harisha Shah, or Hari (pronounced more like Hurry) is going to be starting her final year at London College come September. She was raised by a single mother and they had a BLAST until recently.
Now she’s living with her mother’s older brother Vivaan, and his family. He’s got some kind of job where he makes a lot of money and isn’t home a lot – long hours. POSSIBLY he's on RMMHs board? But isn't in the know if he is. He has a few kids to his first wife, Zayn (6) Sanjay, (7) and there’s room for some teenagers in there too!
His first wife died a couple of years ago, and he’s recently re-married – an arranged marriage to a younger woman who has moved over from Mumbai. She’s way more traditional than the rest of the Shah's but Vivaan has decreed that RIGHT, it's Family Group Effort time, and they're all putting in a lot of effort to make her feel at home. This has had been a bit of a change for Hari, who’s mum was a bit lax when it came to her cultural heritage. She does speak Hindi as well as she speaks English (though if you listen to her uncle, her English is abominable) and she did grow up in a large community of British Indians. She is interested in the culture, she's just also... pretty lazy.
Hari's openly gay, which her uncle does not know how to deal with and tends to go a bit pink and change the subject if she brings it up. Her missing mum was always super supportive and Vivaan does want to respect his sister's daughters choices but oh goodness he does not want to hear about them. Also, most of her friends are queer babies too. Hari's so proud of her generation being the gayest on record.
Tabitha Le Brac Carrington - she's the mother of one of Marie's friends. She had a couple of older teenage children (London College age, aaayyye) one of whom is dating one of Hari's friends. Tabitha Does Not Approve. While he older kids were growing up, she poured herself into work an was hardly ever around, but has since quit her job to focus all her attention on her youngest, Kestrel, who is in Marie's class. She's also WAY too involved in her teenage children's lives for their taste, since they had relative freedom until recently and now she's trying to make up for lost time, read: she's trying to make sure her son straightens up.
She was a Le Brac, and she's married to Mr Carrington, who is Marie's teacher, who is a big softie and Alan Davies in my head. Not much of a backbone when it comes to his wife, but he's a dorky kind of dad and an enthusiastic kind of teacher.
They're all just going in my NPC journal for now. Also LOTS OF SCOPE FOR OPEN CHARS HERE. But also no pressure cos I have a million other things to write and they're not so loud in my head at the moment.
