In the early 1980s a secret worldwide organization know as the Gardiner initiative began to work on a chemical compound to alter human genetics. Their goal? To allow humans to develop superpower abilities.
In 2008, they discovered a formula that would affect certain humans depending on their genetic structure. Once the Gardiner Initiative cut through the red tape of governments around the world they put this chemical compound into world water supplies.
As only few humans would be affected by the compound, it was the Gardiner Initiative’s intention to spread the compound as far as possible in order to generate as many meta-humans. In January 2010 stories began to surface around the world of people who could perform amazing feats such as fly, turn invisible, even read minds.
The Initiative began to round up these people. Some they deceived by offering to help them with their new found powers while others were abducted outright when they resisted. Those that have been captured so far have been brought to a prison-like building in a hidden location and put into the Gene Unit.
Here they will live and receive training to develop and learn control over their powers until the Initiative decides it time to start phase two of their training which will induct them into the world of espionage, black ops and assassination. |

Aberforth, in a fit of pique with his brother, never caught Severus eavesdropping and so Severus was able to hear the complete prophecy. Armed with this information the Dark Lord never attacked the Potters and Harry was never marked as the Chosen One. The Death Eaters, with Voldemort at their head, forced a confrontation with the Order of the Phoenix. In an attempt to stop the fighting Dumbledore challenged the Dark Lord to a duel and lost.
Now the Death Eaters are fully in charge of the Ministry, with Lucius Malfoy as the Minister. The Order of the Phoenix has been shattered and it's members are either captured or in hiding. The Wizarding world has been reformed along feudal lines, and the Muggle government has been infiltrated so that all of the U.K. is controlled by Voldemort.
Purebloods and Full-Bloods are now considered the nobility and upper class. They hold all the positions of power and responsibility. Half-Bloods are considered middle class, though it's possible for them to marry upwards. Muggle borns are sterilised when they are found and taken as slaves of the state.
Hogwarts continues as it was but is now under the guidance of Severus Snape, with several other Death Eaters on the faculty. Those teachers that didn't fight against the Dark Lord are still welcome to continue at their current posts. Half-Blood children are limited to five years of study and graduate after gaining their OWLs. Only Full and Pure-blooded children can take NEWTs.
The English government has declared martial law over 'increasing terrorist attacks' and travel to and from the islands is restricted. Voldemort and his followers want to consolidate their hold on the U.K. so they have a firm base of power before they try to expand across Europe.

behind the veil
Only one pair was still battling... Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: he was laughing at her.
"Come on, you can do better than that!" he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room.
The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest. The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock. Harry released Neville, though he was unaware of doing so. He was jumping down the steps again, pulling out his wand, as Dumbledore, too, turned towards the dais. It seemed to take Sirius an age to fall: his body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch. Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather's wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind, then fell back into place. Harry heard Bellatrix Lestrange's triumphant scream, but knew it meant nothing - Sirius had only just fallen through the archway, he would reappear from the other side any second…
And he did.
Sirius found himself in a world he did not recognize. All around him were familiar faces and yet their lives were not how he remembered it. Even his own life had been lived differently.

In this universe the real threat to the world comes from Gellert Grindelwald who never faced Albus Dumbledore in 1945 and continues to hold onto the Eldar Wand. Grindelwald has combined forces with dark wizards, werewolves and vampires to take over all of Europe. His goal is to make all muggles subservient to wizards and witches. Meanwhile his right hand man Tom Riddle has taken over the Ministry of Magic in great Britan the one place Grindelwald never wanted to touch, but the man known as Voldemort to his followers has his own plans. The time has come for everyone to choose a side. Which side will you be on?

It is the year 2011, one year after the apocalypse.
It all started with a batch of tainted influenza vaccines. Come autumn or winter of the year 2010, when everyone was going out to be inoculated against the seasonal flu and Swine Flu they were unknowingly infecting themselves with a mutated and deadly form of the virus. After merely days after their first exposure, the infected began exhibiting strange behavior. Along with nasty bodily aches, vomiting, and other typical symptoms of ordinary influenza, the infected became hostile to anyone that might pass their way. They certainly didn’t make a conscious decision to spread the mutated virus, but by way of scratching and biting they sped up the demise of the human race a great deal.
The world descended into chaos. As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. All people wanted was to contain the disease and eventually find a cure, but all they succeeded in doing was forming angry mobs. There were so many unnecessary deaths and not exclusively from the mutated flu. World governments ceased to function and the population thinned out to an extreme degree.
The one blessing was that the mutated flu was a blood-borne pathogen. It is not carried through vectors like mosquitos or other insects nor is it airborne. With enough caution, one could escape infection. With enough determination some people might survive.
