I will break you down.
Who: April and Mikhail
What: Mikhail puts his plan in motion.
When: Saturday night
Where: The alley behind the Chicago Theater, then elsewhere
Rating: R (kidnapping, language probably)

April's gig in Into the Woods had been her dream come true- even if she was understudying for one of the evil stepsisters. Hell, especially since she was understudying, considering one came down with some version of the plague that had hit the city since winter, and she had the chance to shine in the actual spotlight tonight. It'd been a key performance of her career; the first that could lead to many actual roles, and she. Had. Nailed it.

So what if it was a minor role, and people would be calling her by the name of the girl she replaced during the whole cast party afterward. April was fine with correcting them, and would with a smile on her face.

The curtain had just gone down on the final act. April, still in bodice, corset, and the full-makeup of a woman who'd just been attacked by a flock of birds, milled out the back bay door with a handful of the other cast and chorus members to grab some fresh air. Backstage could reach the upper 90's in temperature, especially in the 'lower' dressing rooms, so even on the coldest nights, it was fairly well known tradition to have a smoke-break in costume in the brick alley behind.

Interestingly enough, the alley itself had a bad reputation. It'd been where Jeffery Dahmer picked up a number of his victims from the nearby bus station. It had also been the death-site of more than three hundred turn-of-the-century theatergoers... mostly children.. who had fled from an upper story fire escape that wasn't finished in the great fire that destroyed the original theater. The whole place had a haunted reputation that she liked to tease Eli about, and it never strayed far from topic in the suspicious theater crowd. One of them offered April a smoke as she meandered in the cool breeze. She declined, fanning herself with her crow-shredded fan, and lingered around until her cheeks weren't so red under the grease paints.

Raj listened to what Mikhail said. It still didn't make much sense to him, but he took the man's word for it. Quill was his cousin. Well, that was unexpected. "I know her," he said. "She's a friend." Which reminded him that he should really connect with her again. He missed her.

His attention flicked back to Mikhail and his warning. He shook his head. "No," he said. "I'm not going anywhere and you're too weak to force me. So I guess you're just going to have to suck it up and stay awake." He reached out to brush the man's hair away from his face. "You shouldn't stay here," he told him. "It's dirty and you can't be comfortable." He glanced around the room and shook his head. "How did you find this place anyway?"

"I know," he said. "She asked me why I had your bracelet. I told her you gave it to me." Mikhail sighed as heavily as his blood caked nose would allow. He could feel his eyes swelling already. The swelling would be gone by morning, but right now it hurt like hell.

Mikhail shook his head. "I could force you," he said. "But I don't want to. This is nice." He reached out with the hand holding the broken bracelet. He'd switch, but he didn't want to get it bloody. He brushed his fingers down Raj's face. Catching his thoughts as well as his words. "I have a car. It's just down the block. But I don't want to go anywhere there I are people I can hurt."

"Yeah, and you go and get it broken trying to get yourself killed," he teased, smirking only just a touch. He cared very little about the bracelet, more concerned with Mikhail's battered face and trying to keep him awake.

He felt a lot of relief when Mikhail said he didn't want to force him away. The touch to his face was unexpected, but nice. "Give me your keys," he told him. "I'll take you to my place." At least there he had furniture that wouldn't result in needing a tetanus shot and running water so he could get the caked blood off of the man's face. "You're not going to hurt anyone," he told him. "You could have ripped my throat out at least ten time by now. You haven't."

Mikhail let out a rough laugh. "Things didn't go the way I planned," he admitted. He wasn't sorry he'd dropped it. Not really. That was how they'd found him and April.

He groaned. "That isn't how it works, Rajesh," he told him. "I don't know if I lose consciousness what will happen. Sometimes I just sleep, other times the demon takes over. I have no control of myself when the demon in charge. I'll destroy everything. If it happens here, no one will get hurt." Except him. But that was his last concern. "I don't want to hurt you." What was it going to take to get the wolf to understand?

"Usually how things work," he agreed with a little nod. He wasn't all that sorry that the bracelet had been dropped either. At least he had left something behind that had led them to him and to April. It could have turned out much different if that piece of the puzzle hadn't been there.

"You're not going to hurt me," he told him, shaking his head. "Let me help you. I know people like you," he said. "Maybe not a demon, but I know a cursed wolf. He has that darkness inside of him too. He fights it. Every day. And when he can't, we help him. That's what you do for the people you care about. That's what I'm trying to do for you. Fight the demon. I can't fight your darkness for you. You have to fight it. Just let me help you have the strength to do that. Lemme take you to my place, get your face cleaned up, and get you some ice for your ribs and your nose. You're so damn stubborn. Just give in because I'm way more stubborn and if you say no I'll just stay here with you."

"A cursed one," he said. "Yes, it's like that. Except I heal faster." Which would come in handy considering how much he'd gotten beaten up tonight. "So come with you, or you'll stay here?" Mikhail groaned. "Going with you means moving." Especially if the wolf intended to stay. The company was more important than anything else right now.

So he was giving in. A little. "Give me a few hours. I'll heal enough that the pain will be okay. Then we'll go." He'd feel better if his natural healing had a chance to take the edge off the swelling. Then he could sleep without worrying about losing control of himself. "Don't worry so much. I heal as fast as you do. Faster if I concentrate on it." That was bringing the demon closer to the surface, which he was not doing right now.

He was learning something new every day about Mikhail. Each new little tidbit was both interesting and confusing. He wondered what else his half-demon blood enabled him to do, but he didn't ask. Instead, he focused on the question that Mik asked. "Yes. Stubborn," Raj reminded him. He was pleased when Mikhail didn't put up too much of a fight about him staying. He gave in. A little. Enough, though, that Raj smiled.

"Okay," he agreed, nodding a little. "So concentrate on healing then. This place stinks. Literally."

Mikhail snorted. "I can only smell blood," he reminded Raj. "I'll have to take your word for it." He reached for the blanket, starting to feel the chill of the night. "You can poke up the fire. It's starting to get cold."

"Be thankful," he said. "Blood smells better than musty old house." He pushed himself up from the floor, helping Mikhail with the blanket before moving to poke the fire so it wouldn't die out. Once he'd stoked it to his satisfaction, he returned to the man and settled in close to him. "I give off a lot of heat," he told him. "It's gonna get colder. The least I can do is keep you warm. I can shift, if you want," he offered. "Fur's warmer than skin."

"Maybe to you," Mikhail muttered. He pulled the blanket closer. He was starting to drift off to sleep when Raj spoke up. "Okay," he agreed. "Probably more comfortable for you that way." It was his natural state, after all. And as Raj had said, fur was warmer than skin.

Raj nodded and slipped his shoes off, not that there was much left to them after his little wolfing out session. His shirt went in the same fashion. Tucking his jewelry into his pants pocket, he then ditched those too. Shifting into his natural form, his dark, slender wolf, he curled up next to Mikhail as closely as he could, flicking his tail up to curl over the man's body. He could rest now and he would keep him warm. Things would look a little less dim in a few hours.
