It was another busy day at the Carnival, the myriad of people passing through it like strangers in the night, brought together by the strangeness of the place, but in no way connected. It was always fascinating to watch, especially for Julian who enjoyed watching people interact when they didn’t think anybody was there to see it. They were more open in ways they wouldn’t be normally if they were aware of being watched and there was a honesty to them that was otherwise lacking in life.
Julian was currently sat, waiting for his next client, a plethora of objects laid out in front of him. All of which had a story and some were more creative than others, but you didn’t make money if you didn’t spin a few… stories now and then. Not that people suspected, especially if he could pick out their strengths and weaknesses and use them against them. A lot of them wanted to feel as though they were a part of something special, had a remarkable item, something that they could possess and own.
Maybe it was awful of him, but he was there to do a job and it wasn’t his fault that people were ignorant enough not to ask questions and accept the reality he was posing to them with his charming smile and mastery of words.
Julian flicked ash to one side and took a slow drag, his attention drifting in the direction of Ashley’s game that even from here he could hear the sounds of pain, obviously Ashley had robbed somebody else out of their hard earned cash. Again, their fault for just accepting the way things were. It was almost as though they left their brains at the entrance to the Carnival.
He blew out a stream of smoke and reached up, adjusting the way his tie sat. God, this had been a really long day.
