"Nothin' like a grin to show off the pearly-whites," Tom agreed. "And I don't know what it is, but smiling seems to scare 'em more than a grimace or a growl. Growls are expected." He began to drum his fingers on his knees and, to demonstrate what he was talking about, he smiled and displayed his surplus of teeth. "I do hate to be expected."
