"I am Russian," he said, "Siberian, actually." He gestured to his table of displays and things for sale, "I made these things here by hand. Skill taught to me by my father." Volk had lived in Canada and America for quite a while, but Russian was such a different language from English that he still found it difficult to pronounce certain syllables, and tended to put emphasis on the wrong sound in a word.
"The Dark Carnival has been around for many years," he shrugged. "I do not know how long. I have only been here maybe one month. It is special," he agreed. "It is family. I not had family like this in long time. Here, everyone looking for family, place to belong."
