Every day that they had been apart had been torture for Natalie. She almost couldn't function at all without him there to tell her what to do. She still had riding lessons in the morning and piano lessons in the afternoon, but the rest of the time, Natalie had no idea what to do with herself. She'd always had Nathaniel there to tell her what to do. She had counted down the days until he would return for the winter hols. Begged their parents to take her with them when they went to King's Cross to meet him. They agreed, and so the three of them were standing clustered on the platform with the other parents who were waiting to pick up their children. Nathaniel, meanwhile, was on the train on the way back to King's Cross. He needed to get home and see Natalie. The past months had been torture for him, as well. He hadn't felt in control of anything since he had boarded the train to Hogwarts back in September. It grew worse every day, until he felt like he would snap. The entire train ride back to London, he looked out the windows, trying to see ahead, to catch the first glimpse of the station. When the train pulled in, Nathaniel was the first student off the train. His eyes searched desperately for his family, and he saw them. Saw her. Natalie, surrounded by their parents. It took all of his willpower to not run over there, instead walking at a very measured pace. Once he reached his family, however, he pulled his little sister into his arms, burying his face in her hair. Her arms wrapped around his waist, and they just held each other. They just weren't complete without each other. |
