General Fic: Alone (Natalie Travers)
Title: Alone
Characters: Natalie Travers
Setting: September 1, 1969, the Travers home
Word Count: 326
Summary: A continuation, of sorts, of this fic.
Rating: PG-ish
Author's Note: Not really a ficlet, per se. It was the sample third-person RP I wrote for my application for Natalie. But it's pretty much a ficlet in itself, and it's perfect to come right after "Don't Go."
They had just returned from seeing Nathaniel off on the Hogwarts Express for the first time. Natalie wished she could have boarded that train with her brother. It had been one thing to accompany him and mother while shopping for supplies for him to take to Hogwarts, and to sit there on his trunk while he told her all about what Hogwarts was going to be like, but it was another thing entirely for her to be here alone without him. That part hadn't really sunk in until now. Both of her parents had disappeared somewhere or another, Natalie never really knew where her parents went or what they did, actually. But a nurse had ushered Natalie up to her room and left her there to entertain herself. Natalie had never had to "entertain herself" before, she'd always had Nathaniel around to tell her what to do. She didn't even have riding lessons like she always had in the mornings because Mother had cancelled them for today. Piano lessons weren't until three, as they were every afternoon. Natalie was completely and totally alone. And she didn't like it. Worrying her lower lip between her teeth, she turned about in small circles, looking around her room. She didn't like being alone, didn't like having nobody around to tell her what to do. What if she did something wrong? There was nobody around to correct her or even tell her that she was wrong. She started shaking, but she wasn't cold. This wasn't right, she shouldn't be left by herself. She needed someone. She needed Nathaniel, but he was on the train going to Hogwarts and he wouldn't be back until Christmas. The crystal vase on her dresser suddenly exploded, sending shards of crystal, flowers, and water everywhere. Natalie screamed and cowered in the corner, hiding her face in her knees until someone came for her. But it wouldn't be Nathaniel, whoever came for her. He wasn't here. |
