:-D It was a lot of fun to make....

The cat one was less fun to make because the contrast kept disappearing on me, :-)

I can imagine :)

I hate when that happens. I struggled with the Sherlock colouring in mine. Not necessarily with the colour, but with keeping contrast and details - The face was supposed to look like a face after all ;D

:-) My Sherlock one came out like I wanted it (I was pretty much just playing with curves, I will learn to use that tool darn it!)

The cat one, the cat kept becoming a mostly white cat, which was unacceptable... So I kept doing different things to try and get a black and white image with contrast, and cursing. As a result that might be my favorite of the three. :-P

I really like my result, but it wasn't what I imagined today while I was at work thinking about the prompt :D

Did the tutorials I listed not help?

It did help and the tutorial I did was fun but it really doesn't look painted.

Maybe not painted by hand, but it does look as if you "painted" it in Photoshop and not just like a picture that had been edited (although I didn't check out the original image)

I managed an early start - I made angst and b&w tonight, before chatting via icq with a friend and talking over skype with my dad :)
Knowing how much time I have left is a bad motivator :D

Yay, hopefully there will be a cap I can use a similarish technique on from season two....

The tutorial link is here: http://kailoon.com/photo-edit-watercolor-effect/ Only thing about this tutorial is it doesn't explain why and what effect things are having...

But if you finish them all now what will you do when it gets closer to deadlines...? :-P

:D

Depending on the filters you have available you could also try something like Ink Outline or Glowing Edges (I think I normally set those to Soft Light at a lowered opacity) to work the Edges a bit more like a painting (Or other artistic filters). Or, if the effect isn't enough, you could try adding a pattern over the entire icon. I think I had some default paper, linen and other structure patterns in Photoshop that can give the effect of a paper basis.

Some tutorials really suck at explaining things and just giving out numbers like every image is the same.

I can always sign up for a third table here... or a bigger one, once I'm finished with the others. Or typing up those remaining snippets and actually finish them. Although I'm considering on creating several "snippet" stories where I put random snippets together that might or might not get finished, but are set up like an open ended ficlet instead of the unfinished beginning they actually are :D

I almost never use filters in my icons so I'm really loving the painting icon... :-)

I'm a little irritated that I can't find the icon textures I downloaded that give a painted effect on icons, I had a bunch of them but I can't seem to find them and sadly the maker of both the textures and the tutorials I got them from have deleted their journals.

Besides the challenges here and on seasons, I signed up for Movies20in20 with Narnia and tvcharacters20in20 with John. I also challenged myself (Tryslora is holding a marathon) to write 10k and make 100 icons between Wednesday and Sunday... because I hate myself. :-)

I try to use a bit more than my standard sharpen and blur filters, but it's not always useful. The prompt is just a good excuse :)

Not finding textures I know I have hasn't happened to me yet - mostly because I never know anyway :D

I'm still keeping it small :D
The urge is there, but the muse not yet. I probably need to make more without deadlines... I can always use my DailyPrompt thing and create a table for me (I just need to remember to create a copy or all those prompts will be waiting for about 3 weeks until they have a chance of showing up here :D)

:-)

It was one of those rare time when I remember what I have (found them, they were in a folder called crap to sort, had to empty my main drive to install new things)... most of the time I'm like when I download that? The same file five different times at different points in a year.

As always, I start off small but then that sounds fun, oooh new prompts for that... and before I know it I'm signed up for a crazy amount of stuff.

At least you found them :)

I'm lucky enough to have a defined folder for that so I know which names to add to my resource list. Which I really need to update again. It's been a while and I found a couple of new image archives.

I think I've learned by now :)

Now I'm making screencaps, because I realised I didn't have any of the Blind Banker and I wrote down Mrs Hudson for close up... no suitable screencaps in any folder. Now I just need to decide if I want to start the second episode in 10 minutes and let it run until midnight or if I do it tomorrow (which probably would feature the unaired pilot as well - and maybe some of that making of)

^_^ I try and remember to bookmark places I grab things from but there's a reason why there's a disclaimer on my credit page that says I have a crappy memory and let me know if I've not credited you for a resource.... :-P

Oooh blind banker, my favorite so far. I finished the first episode of season 2... but got stalled by a migraine.

Most of the time I simply take a community on LJ as my source of links (can't remember the time and I should get dressed/ready for work)

I like some elements of Blind Banker, but when it comes to the complete episode I like it the least. I like the Great Game best since it has several smaller cases put together ;)

How did you like it? I thought it was great (although it did upset me with Mycroft. It's his own fault that Sherlock fell into that trap with the information he had and those informations that Mycroft didn't share)
Mrs Hudson was beyond brilliant in that episode though :)

Have a great day at work! ^_^

I adored Mrs. Hudson...

I agree about Mycroft but there's the scene after Moriarty texts him that furthers my belief that there's more we're not being shown about My's motives.

I posted my full reaction (or at least my immediately after watching) of the episode here

Thanks :D

I did struggle a bit with the top one - just because I couldn't find a font that didn't make boredom look silly and worked with both words boredom and accomplice :D

Now I'll see if I can finish my season20in20 claim early... I'm determined *has the picture for angst open*

^_^ Good luck! I'll be watching season 2 and capping it at the same time tonight, while Ian's at work, since he didn't care to watch it with me.

That does remind me that I need to go post my question about the painting one.

I use the auto-cap function on the vlc player I have... I try avoiding using the computer too much at the time (not sure if that truly has an effect though)... and I get a lot of screencaps using that, but I'm usually too distracted for individual screencaps (especially since vlc doesn't have a shortcut and I don't usually use that PowerDVD player I have - I think I have that one...)

I use an autocap program as well, I just find it easier if I'm also watching things at the same time... otherwise my computer has to both cap images and keep me entertained.

:-P

I either read on the computer or just turn on the tv (since aside from the dvd player I can now plug my external hard drive in and watch from that one... )
