The Selwyn Dispatch: 27th December
The titles for The Selwyn Dispatch play before revealing Diana Selwyn standing before a screen instead of seated at her desk. The screen displays the programme's logo. DS: (smiling sadly) Hello all, and Happy Christmas. Or, at least, as happy as can be managed. The team here at the Dispatch would like to extend our condolences to all those suffering in the wake of this tragedy. We eagerly await the day when all of us can live together in peace. Our show will return as planned tomorrow in its regular timeslot, with special guest historian and author Professor Bathilda Bagshot. Today, however, we want to pay tribute to a very special friend and co-worker injured over Christmas: Derwent Shimpling. The screen display behind Diana shifts to the logo for Derwent Shimpling's The Derwent Shimpling Show With Derwent Shimpling, alongside a huge portrait of Shimpling himself. DS: Derwent and I have never seen eye-to-eye politically, but we have worked together for over a decade. In that time, both at the Wizarding Wireless Network and now at WizVis, we've proven you don't need to be ideologically aligned to do great business together and have much respect for one another as friends.Selwyn's eyes grow wet with tears, in a moment that will be giffed a million times probably. DS: I admire Derwent very much. This is a man who has experienced so much tragedy in his life -- it has been only a few years since the tragic loss of his daughter, and now he himself must fight back from the brink. But the Derwent I know is a strong man, and I believe in him. To show our support, we've decided to dedicate this two-hour block of airtime to a special we've put together: The Very Best Of Derwent Shimpling. Please take a moment to sit back and join us in celebrating a brilliant talent. What follows is, as described, a two-hour clip show featuring many of Derwent Shimpling's most celebrated moments as an on-air personality over the last 8 years. It closes with his recent parody of Diana herself, guest starring the late Florence Abercrombie. Afterward, we return to Diana, wiping a tear from her eye and laughing. DS: Thank you, Derwent, for helping us to laugh at ourselves. We need your sense of humour now more than ever. Get well soon. |
