Morag looked mournfully down at her plate. The order of cannoli looked and smelled delicious, as she had known it would when she ordered it a few moments before, but the piece she'd lifted toward her mouth to take a bite was now a carrot. Morag did like carrots, but she had been craving something sweet. Vegetables hadn't been on the list of things she wanted to eat right now, but it seemed like the often strange magic of Cuaditch had something else in mind. It was times like this when she almost wondered why she chose to live here.
Sighing, she bit into the carrot, wishing desperately that it would change back into the food she'd actually paid for. Her wish wasn't to be granted, of course, and she sighed again, finishing the carrot and reaching for another piece of cannoli. This one turned into a poblano and Morag made another face. As much as she did enjoy a little extra kick in her food, she didn't usually eat them raw. "Ugh," she grumbled, letting the pepper fall back to her plate.
She wondered if she should just have the rest of the cannoli boxed up. It was obviously she wasn't really going to be able to enjoy them until this weirdness wore off.
It was good to be back home, although there were moments that Lavender wished she was back in France with Parvati, Dean and Seamus. It was nice to get away and forget the world for a while. Since she'd been home, she'd managed to avoid Theodore Nott and catch up with other friends including Roger Davies. She was starting to wonder if this crush that'd started out not real was going to change to real.
She was out walking Juniper , the dog she'd gotten from the cocktails and tails event from the Spinnet Foundation when she caught sight of Morag looking grumpy sitting at a table inside Panzari's. She had Juniper sit and tied him up before heading in and putting a hand on Morag's shoulder.
"You don't look like you're enjoying them much." She commented, worried.
The dropped pepper had turned back to a cannoli as it hit her plate and Morag made a face at Lavender before picking it up again, as if to take a bite, only to have it transform again. This time, it became a mini cucumber and Morag sighed.
“It’s not that I don’t like vegetables or appreciate the merits of eating healthy,” she started and then trailed off.
Lavender tried not to laugh and she managed a small cough to cover it up. She looked around and it didn’t look like anyone else was having any problem with food like that so it seemed not to be the food itself.
“Were you anywhere before you came here?” She asked, tilting her head to the side.
“It’s okay, I’d laugh too,” Morag said, noticing the cough and pretty sure Lavender wanted to die laughing about this. She’d be laughing if it was somebody else. Hell, she’d probably laugh about it later, anyway.
She shook her head at the question. “Just home,” she said. “I had the day off.” She’d been doing some work around her flat, the washing and reorganizing her own space and she’d only been driven out by her sweet tooth.
Lavender smiled softly but kept her laugh in all the same. “Did you walk a different way?” She asked, wondering if she’d been hit with something unknowingly or if it had something to do with the food itself. She saw someone else eating a cannoli that stayed a cannoli.
Morag shook her head, not sure what could have happened. “I think it’s probably just one of those things,” she suggested, but she pulled out a piece of parchment and sketched out the path she’d taken, just in case there was a clue Lavender might recognize there.
Lavender took the parchment and opened up a map on her phone with anything new that might have come in but didn’t see anything. “Could be one of those things, or someone messed with some of the food supplies, or sat at the bar for a while being an utter prat.” She offered handing the parchment back to her. “Think you can control what kind of veggie you get to eat?”
“Dunno,” Morag admitted. It had seemed to be random so far. Picking up a cannoli, she concentrated on the image of a radish as she lifted it toward her mouth. It turned into an eggplant. “Guess not,” she said, laughing and shaking her head.
“Well, at least you’re going to get your vitamins today,” Lavender smiled softly. She knew she’d probably hate it. “But hey, it probably won’t last that long.” She added hopefully.
Morag laughed and nodded. “I think I'm probably going to take this to go, though,” she said, “and hope it actually tastes like cannoli tomorrow.”
