WHAT ARE THE INSPIRED FINAL FANTASY WORLDS OF CRYSTAL CROSSOVER? Crystal Crossover is a combination of Final Fantasy worlds, races, classes, and mythos. These worlds include Final Fantasy I, III, IV, V, IX, X-2, XII, Tactics, Tactics Advance, and Tactics A2. It also borrows some ideas from Crystal Chronicles. It is all of these worlds and none of them at the same time. You will find familiar things from every one of these games blended into a new world all it's own. It is strongly recommended that you are familiar with most of these games before applying. WHAT KIND OF RPG IS CRYSTAL CROSSOVER? Crystal Crossover embodies the free roaming, open worldliness of the original Final Fantasy while also including various races and classes from many of the other Final Fantasy games. Even though the world is still quite large and there are many locations to explore, we also incorporated the idea of Mist from Crystal Chronicles to invoke a sense of compactness. Your characters can go anywhere, do anything, and be anything. As long as you follow the rules and your actions pertain to the inspired worlds of Final Fantasy mentioned above, there are no limits except your imagination. HOW DO I RESERVE A PB? Here at Crystal Crossover, we operate on a first come, first serve basis for PBs. If this were a fandom character based rpg, then there would be a section for reservations. If there is someone in particular you want to be, then you just have to apply with that PB before anyone else. Once your application has been submitted, that will act as a reservation until it has been approved. Also, it is perfectly acceptable to use original character art. If you have any that you would like to use in place of a PB, then by all means use it. HOW DO I CHOOSE A PB IF MOST OF THE RACES AREN'T EVEN HUMAN? This is definitely a thought that has crossed our minds as well. For some races, they look exactly like humans anyway, so its easy to imagine what they would look like as that race. Even some of the other races, such as Gria and Viera, are easy to imagine what they would look like with the features of those races. However, perhaps you want to be a Bangaa or Seeq, but are having trouble deciding how to choose a PB for that race. Unfortunately, there is no good answer for this question. We suggest choosing a PB solely for the purpose of having icons for your posts. If you have character art to use as icons, then that would help. If you can post links to any character art under the "Appearance" section of your application and post it in your character's journal, then that would also help. WHAT IF THE RACE/CLASS I WANT TO BE ISN'T LISTED? If there is a race or class from the Final Fantasy series you would like to be that isn't listed, just contact a mod about it. Most likely, it was omitted for a reason. There are so many races that play minor roles, especially in Final Fantasy IX, that there just isn't enough information about them to be included as a valid race. As for classes, a great deal of them are extremely similar or one-note, so they were omitted for that reason. This doesn't mean that you can't request to have a particular class, though. If you have any questions about this, then please feel free to contact a mod. WHAT SHOULD I DO ONCE I'M ACCEPTED? Finish setting up your character's journal if you haven't already done so. It should already contain a post with their application, so that will suffice. If you choose to do so, you may also have a "How's My Driving?" post, but it isn't mandatory. After that, join the RPG community, Mognet community, and OOC community so you can begin posting. Comment on the cast page so we can post your contact and character information, introduce yourself and your character in the OOC community, and then enjoy being a part of Crystal Crossover! HOW DOES MY CHARACTER END UP HERE? This is completely up to you. Were they brought in from the Mist? Have they lived here their entire lives? Or maybe they were spirited away from another land? It is possible that your character may be more familiar with one of the inspired Final Fantasy worlds in particular than any of the others, but they will always find common people, places, and things here in Crossover. WHERE IS MY CHARACTER'S RESIDENCE? There are many places to live in Crystal Crossover. It all depends on your character concept, social upbringing, job, etc. If your character has wealthy parents, it would make sense that they live in a fancier part of the city. However, if your character survives from job to job as a freelancer, they may not have a place to live at all and will constantly stay at various inns or a friend's place. It's all up to how you want to roleplay it. WHAT DOES MY CHARACTER DO FOR A LIVING? Much like where your character lives, this is also completely dependent on your character concept. Is it something related to their race or class, or is it just a trade they picked up from friends or family? As long as it's something within reason and related to the inspired worlds of the Final Fantasy series, then it's totally up to you. WHAT IS THE FORM OF CURRENCY? As with almost every single Final Fantasy game to date, the form of currency is Gil. As far as price conversions, take the current USD($) amount for what the product is or a similar item, round it up to the nearest whole dollar amount, and simply change it to Gil. For example, a sword might cost $79.99. Simply round that up to $80 and change it to 80G. It's that easy! WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE? The weather in Crystal Crossover is always perfectly sunny, yet never too warm. The only time there is ominous weather is when obviously some sort of trouble is brewing. If any extreme weather conditions happen, it will be mentioned along with any other information during an event. Also, it is important to keep in mind the existence of Mist. WHAT IS MIST AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT MY CHARACTER? Mist surrounds the world of Crystal Crossover, and it can poison or even kill if too much of it is ingested. The world is protected by a crystal stationed in Crystal Square, which is in the center of the city. The radius of this crystal encompasses the entire city and most of the outlying areas. The most dangerous area containing Mist is higher up in the Arkatund mountains. Also, Viera have a unique reaction to the Mist. If they are near it, or exposed to it for a prolonged period of time, they will enter a state known as Mist Frenzy. During this state, they submit to an uncontrollable rage, lashing out at anyone or anything in sight. HOW DO CHARACTERS COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER? Besides talking to characters in person, the only other way to communicate is through the Mognet system inspired by Final Fantasy III and IX. These moogles can send and receive messages, packages, or anything else that the postal system would typically deliver. This is all done using our Mognet community. You may post private or open messages to individuals or groups. Just be sure to follow the posting format mentioned in the rules and later on in this FAQ. CAN I INTERACT WITH THE NPCS OR ARE THEY JUST FOR SHOW? It is perfectly fine to interact with any and all NPCs. If there isn't one where you think there should be, then just let a mod know and we'll try to accommodate you. Currently, the NPCs are as follows:
♦Brigit Dagda, a knight who guards the main castle entrance in Ebeneen. She's not very talkative, but she can be persuaded to give you access to certain off limits areas around the city. ♦Mogoto, the main Moogle who delivers all the mail. He's extremely approachable, but he might not have time to chat. He's very busy running the Mognet service. ♦King Sargon Kish, the benevolent ruler of the great city in Crystal Crossover. You can find out more about him in the next question in this FAQ. Much like in the original Final Fantasy, the king only exists for plot purposes. He will only play a small part for necessary character interactions and speak out during major events. In fact, if a player would like to become king themselves or just take over as King Sargon, that is entirely possible. Discuss this decision with a mod, and we will collaborate on something. WHAT MODES OF TRANSPORTATION ARE THERE? As in most Final Fantasy worlds, the two main modes of transportation are chocobos and airships. There are many chocobo stables located throughout the city so your characters can rent and ride them at any time, but much like the real Final Fantasy, once you dismount they will run back to wherever you got them and you'll have to rent another. Airships are primarily for military and industrial purposes only, however it is possible to use them as transportation in certain situations. ARE IN GAME BATTLES SIMILAR TO FINAL FANTASY BATTLES? Not at all. In a sense, it is still turn based because of how forum rpgs normally function, but there are no hit points, magic points, or other stats to keep track of in Crystal Crossover. That being said, it is still important to roleplay certain aspects. Mages shouldn't be able to spam powerful spells just because there is no actual MP gauge. Characters should still have their limits, and this should definitely be portrayed by their muns. There is no annoying battle system in place to burden you, but if the mods feel that anyone is abusing this, then they will be dealt with when the time comes. Also, this is subject to change depending on player feedback. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHARACTER DIES? There are many dangers in the world of Crystal Crossover. Should your character happen to fall in battle, just remember that this is based on Final Fantasy. If someone has a phoenix down or there is a White Mage who can cast Life, then there are no worries. Try not to abuse that system, though. If the mods feel like death and revival are being abused, then it will be dealt with accordingly. WHAT IS THE TIME FRAME? The current time frame is that one week IRL is equal to one day in Crystal Crossover. New months in game start on the first complete week of each month IRL. This means that each day starts on a Sunday morning and ends on a Saturday night no matter when in the month it happens. Even if the week begins in one month, but ends in another month, the day in game is still a part of the month that the week began. As far as holidays are concerned, whatever week IRL they occur is also when we will observe them in game. Not all holidays will be observed, and the names and reasons of holidays may be changed to fit our purposes. This is subject to change depending on player activity and feedback. The 2010 calendar for Crystal Crossover can be found here. WHAT ABOUT THE PASSAGE OF TIME DURING ONE DAY IN GAME? As previously stated, one week IRL is equal to one day in game. Even though it can be assumed that Sunday is morning and time passes until Saturday is night, posts can be made throughout the week for any time of day. The time of day could be a specific time such as "11am", or something more generic like "evening". As long as you note the time of day under the When category of your posts to avoid confusion, there shouldn't be any issues. If you happen to miss a particular day in game, such as a holiday event or follow up to an action log or message, backdating posts is always allowed. WHAT FORMAT DO I USE TO MAKES POSTS? This is basically up to you. As long as the there is a clear difference between action and speech, it doesn't matter too much. Here are some examples of how to properly make posts:
[Type action here.] Type speech here. [Type action here.] Type speech here. WHEN SHOULD A POST BE UNDER A CUT AND/OR FRIENDS ONLY? Here at Crystal Crossover, we use the same rating system for posts as you would for movies. If your post contains material that is not safe for work or minors (meaning a rating of R, NC-17, or worse), then please put it under a cut and make it friends only. Also, if an action log or Mognet message is particularly lengthy, then please put it under a cut as well. WHAT ELSE CAN I POST BESIDES ACTION LOGS AND MOGNET MESSAGES? If you run a business, you can use Mognet to post advertisements. You can even use Mognet to set up a daily gazette, gossip column, or similar things. With mod approval, you may also post memes and suggest plot ideas in the OOC community. Use your imagination! SHOULD I/CAN I DO THAT? If you are uncertain about anything at all -be it a character concept, plot idea, job, race, class, something you're going to post, etc.- please don't hesitate to contact a mod about it first. A good rule to follow is that if you aren't sure that you should do it, then you probably shouldn't. Otherwise, feel free to contact a mod and they will help you make an informed decision as to what to do. WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE HOW YOU OPERATE THINGS HERE? Unfortunately, not everyone can see eye to eye all the time. If there is something you are unhappy about, then feel free to leave a comment on the mod contact page, or contact a mod directly. We will try to resolve any issues as best we can if it's possible. I HAVE A QUESTION THAT ISN'T ANSWERED HERE! Feel free to leave a comment below with any questions you may have, or contact a mod directly. If it's something generally important, we will add it into the FAQ. And thank you for taking the time to read it! |
