Who: Calvin and Greg
What: A first encounter
Where: The library
When: June 12, midmorning
Rating: Low
Although Calvin didn't actually live in the library full time anymore, it still calmed him to walk among the shelves. Over the past few weeks he'd gotten so used to being surrounded by books that despite the delicious luxuriousness of his new surroundings, he missed the dusty, leather-and-paper smell of the reference section. And besides, Terri had almost convinced that the library was technically "his territory," so it only made sense that he would check up on it. ... And if he took a couple of reference books home with him then that was just good sense, right? Besides, knowledge was power, especially in a world like this, where information was at a premium.
Of course, physical power was also at a premium, but Calvin didn't like to think about that. Instead, he refocused his attention on the task at hand - getting a large tome about farming down from the top shelf of the book stacks. Even on the little ladder that the now-dead librarians had so kindly provided him, the task was not an easy one, and it wobbled a little under his feet as he stretched up to grasp the heavy binding. He'd just eased it off of the shelf when a high-pitched whine emanated from his walkie talkie, surprising him and causing the book to slip from his fingers and clatter to the ground with a thump.
"Great," Calvin groaned. He climbed down from the ladder, fiddling with the walkie talkie dials as he went.
