For all of Greg's dislike of where Rosa had set up shop, it had been wonderful to meet up with her again. The last few weeks he'd been wondering if he was the only one left and it was a profound relief to know that at least two more people (including the cop that Rosa didn't like) had survived and that one of them was a good friend of his. If he could just convince her that trying to keep part of that hospital sterile and ready to treat people was a fool's errand then they'd be making progress. She wasn't ready for that just yet though, so Greg held his peace on the subject and he'd left after two days with a promise to try and find some handheld radios or something that they could use to communicate with when not face to face.
That would come later though, right now he was anxious to get home. His garden would need watering and there were other things around the house he wanted to get done before the weather turned too hot.
It was a very good thing, he told himself yet again, that he'd bought such an old property that wouldn't be nearly as dependent on modern technology as a modern home would be. It was also a good thing, he reflected a bit more ruefully, that he hadn't gotten around to doing as much as he'd planned in bringing the house up to modern standards. He might not be good with technology, but he'd liked having hot and cold running water, air conditioning, and all the little conveniences that modern technology had provided.
Oh well, at least he was well equipped to survive in this new old world they found themselves thrust into. He turned the corner and saw his house down the road and found a burst of speed as he pedaled for home.
