Conrad winced, both from Wesley's tumble and his question. "I -- We just chatted. Over the Network. And.. it's not all that dangerous. I don't think so, anyway. I just wanted to tell her what happened with Sloan, in New York. Maybe hear more about the Fraternity. Is.. that okay?"
Because if Wesley honest to god didn't want them hanging out alone, Conrad wouldn't do it. Or at the very least, he would invite Wes to come along to be the referee. Conrad wasn't stupid. He knew Fox was just as well-trained as Wes. He knew she was not someone to be messed with. But he wasn't trying to mess with her. He just wanted to get to know her, that was all. She was part of Wesley's life, part of his history. One of the people who made Wesley who he was today. And that was important to Conrad.
But he could also see how this could be taken the wrong way. Especially since Conrad had made it obvious how jealous he had been of Fox. "Or does that make things awkward?"
