Meet me downstairs, roller rink.

Conrad didn't need to be told twice. Now that he was free of Mike (no offense, Mike), he was happy to be able to go about his own business without risking anyone slamming into a doorframe.

..anyone being himself, of course.

It seemed his body was not done accumulating bruises, though. Down to the skating rink he went to meet up with Wesley, whom he hadn't seen in several days. After Conrad's conversation with Fox over the Network, the Brit was eager to see his not-quite-but-almost-maybe boyfriend for more than one reason.

It wasn't necessarily that he wanted to tattle on Fox. Weirdly enough, Conrad didn't mind that she wanted to speak with him. It was only natural in a place like this, to want to sort out who your allies were. Or weren't. All the same, he did feel that it was worth mentioning to Wes, just in case.

The moment Conrad was close enough, he'd scoop Wesley up into a hug, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "How was your time with Senku?"

Just when things were starting to get back to normal, everything got turned upside-down again. Or rather, tuned to each other. It was impossible to know exactly what was connecting everyone to each other but it was easy to figure out the rules. Wes hadn't been able to get more than ten feet from his new buddy before ending flat on his face. He'd tried pulling so hard that he'd made himself sick to his stomach. But he'd had to stop when he realized he was also hurting Senku by trying. It was one thing to hurt himself. His conscience couldn't rest easy as long as they were both connected, even if his curiosity was dying find out how far he could pull against the connection. It had made going to the bathroom ten times more fun at least.

Needless to say, as nice as Senku turned out to be (thankfully), Wes near shot off like a rocket the moment he felt the connection dissipate. He barely got a goodbye out to the guy before he was bolting out the door, scrambling for his phone out of his back pocket.

It was late, sure, but who cared? Conrad sure didn't seem to mind the hour when he shot him that text. Wes had just arrived at the rink not five minutes before the blonde showed up after him. All in one pice, which was good. Wes did spot a few bruises but didn't have the chance to point them out before Conrad was all arms and lips. He laughed, relieved that they were alone to do this and also happy to see that the hotel had not been able to dampen his friend's spirits completely. "It was better than I expected. Don't think I've heard so much about rocks before in my life but hey, now I've learned something."

He hung his arms around Conrad's shoulders. "Looks like you got banged up pretty good. Ouch. Did you have a fight with a door?" Wes was teasing. He'd seen what that Mike guy had put out on the network. Poor Conrad indeed. "How many bruises you got and can I kiss them all?"

Conrad laughed, lifting his hand and pushing his hair back, displaying his favorite bruise upon his forehead. "For someone who couldn't even see his target, Mike had excellent aim." Not that Conrad was actually complaining. He had survived the Vietnam War and Skull Island. A few shin-bumps and furniture collisions was nothing in comparison to that. Not to mention, Conrad adored his neighbor. He knew it was all in good fun.

Although, out of context, these tether-given injuries made Conrad sound horribly clumsy, and that he found quite entertaining.

"Oh, how the tables have turned. You have to kiss my bruises now," Conrad leaned down, brushing their noses together, "I have plenty, dear, though I'm not too sure it would be appropriate to kiss them here.."

This whole being openly-affectionate thing with Wes was still pretty new to Conrad. An adjustment he clearly wasn't having too much of a difficult time overcoming, because he was already nuzzling more affection to the underside of Wesley's jaw. "How about.. we skate a few laps first?"

Truth be told, Conrad was far more interested in having Wesley's mouth find those bruises. But if they were ever going to discuss Fox, it for sure would not happen if Conrad took Wes upstairs now.

As far as Wes knew, Conrad was a little clumsy. The first time they'd been down here, they'd ended up in a mess of legs and arms fairly quickly. And there were a lot of bruises on the blonde. He hadn't met Mike yet but from the way Conrad talked about him, he was sure they were all accidental. Still, Wes did make a mental note to count every single one later. He knew if he started now, somebody would call them out for public indecency.

First, he wanted to give Conrad a real date. A good date. Ones that ended with kisses, not punches or stabbings.

"Oh I'll kiss more than your bruises." Wes stole a kiss, hiding the start of that husky tone across Conrad's cheek. He peeled himself away reluctantly. "C'mon, no tempting me until I've at least shown off one thing to you." And he said that just before leaning in and kissing Conrad's other cheek so he was being horrible already. Only when he'd pulled himself at least a few feet, he was able to let his mind go back to the rink. He'd spent the last several days wanting to touch Conrad again. Letting all that affection and longing all in one go was dangerous. He had a purpose tonight. And if a few things happened after he'd reached that goal, well he was okay with that.

He'd grabbed skates for them both when he first got here. Grabbing the right pair for Conrad, he held it out for him and then quickly put on his own. "You know, I've actually been practicing down here." He winked as he finished up tying his laces and then once he was done, he went for the wall divider and easily vaulted himself over, landing lightly on the skates. Thankfully he hadn't fallen this time. He used the skates to push himself backward slowly. Grinning, and maybe feeling a little smug, he lifted his head to Conrad. "What do you think? Impressive?"

Oh, it was tempting. Horribly tempting. That side of him that ached for physical pleasure was telling him he was an idiot for not tossing his hands up and declaring that they forego the skating altogether. But Conrad knew better than that. He needed to pace himself. Throwing himself at Wesley like some horny teenager would have been awfully tacky.

So he'd focus. Skating first. Discussion first.

..then, later, he might have to give poor Mike another reason to angrily knock on his wall. Sorry, Mike.

"My, my. Look at you, skating backwards. You know, Wes, I find the one thing that I'm actually better at than you, and you surpass me in a few self-taught lessons. How unfair." Despite that sour look on his face, Conrad was absolutely teasing. And he was proud of Wes. After getting his own skates on, he joined Wesley out on the floor, casually gliding after him.

"Alright then, do an entire lap backwards like that. Then I'll be impressed."

Impishly, Wes skated just out of Conrad's reach. "Don't sell yourself short. There could be lots of things that you're better at than me. Cooking? Bet you anything you have me beat on that." What could he say? He was a little competitive. But this wasn't about showing that he was better. He'd just wanted to peacock around a little, show off this new skill and maybe see if Conrad was up for grabbing at a few of his feathers.

"An entire lap, huh?" Wes gave it all a glance. He'd spent any spare time he had coming down here. Now was the time to show off what all that practice had done. He slid his gaze back to Conrad as he kept pushing himself along, now putting his hands behind his back. What would Conrad give him if he made it two laps? "Alright then, see if you can keep up." Cockiness aside, he wouldn't go too far from his best friend. He wanted this to be a fun night. He kind of also wanted to see how much he would have to push to try and get Conrad the chase him a little.

"I've missed you," he admitted after they rounded their first turn. Wes was still going backwards, as promised. "I know we've been messaging each other and I get see you for a few minutes here and there but, you know it's not really the same as getting to relax and be with you." Even if it was just the two of them going around and around on a couple of skates. It sounded sappy but it was true.

Keep up? Oh, they were playing that game, were they? Conrad noticed when Wesley sped up, and in turn, pursued him. Not too aggressively at the start. There was always several feet between them, with Wesley constantly just out of reach. Every now and then, Conrad would accelerate just enough to swipe at Wesley in a lighthearted manner, his fingertips nearly grazing the other man's shirt. A cat toying with his prey with little intent of actually making a kill.

It was fun and hilariously innocent for what it was: a monster hunter playfully chasing a deadly assassin around a roller rink. It wasn't until he heard Wesley mention that he missed him did Conrad's balance waver. He didn't fall, but he was caught off guard.

It shouldn't have been all that surprising. Wesley and Conrad had been expressing care for one another long before they'd ever become romantically involved. All the same, it felt different now. In a good way. A softer way. So after that brief falter, Conrad sped back up, almost completely catching up to Wesley.

"I missed you, too. And you're right. Texting you isn't quite the same as lying in bed with you and playing with your hair.." Something that Conrad had come to enjoy quite a bit recently. Conrad had actually gotten pretty far in life without experiencing much cuddling. And now that he had a willing partner, he couldn't seem to get enough of it. "I'm going to be jealous if Senku took my forking rights from me."

Conrad liked a challenge, didn't he? He'd let himself get pulled into exploring an assumed unknown island with no idea what sort of beasts were roaming about. The man was a thrill seeker. Wes was at least a thrill and a half and he was ready for Conrad to come seeking.

He chuckled, remembering when those forking rights were claimed. Though he did like it when Conrad got jealous (maybe more like appreciate the reason behind it), the blonde had nothing to fear over this. "Ten feet is plenty of space between beds. The only thing I cuddled was a pillow. It was a very soft pillow so you might have some competition there."

Wes let Conrad get close but at the last moment, twirled himself away. He'd practiced spinning for hours until his stomach hated him. He could almost do it with his eyes closed. But not now. Not when he wanted to see Conrad's eyes light up as he watched him. "I've got another move I can show you but you'll have to catch me first to find out what it is." He sped up a little more, grinning quite cheekily.

When Conrad did catch him, and Wes was definitely going to let him, it was going to be game over. For the rink, anyway. For them, the game would just be getting started. "My goal is to have this end better than your other date went."

"Catch you? I think I can manage that.." Conrad narrowed his eyes, putting a little more steam in that engine of his and raced after Wesley. Now he was aggressively chasing him. But only because Wes had taunted him, like a matador flagging down his bull.

By the time Conrad got his arms around Wesley's midsection, he was spinning the two of them together and laughing -- until, once again, the other man's words stunned him into silence.

It wasn't odd that Wesley had referred to this as a date. Because it was. It was the fact that Wesley had voiced that he wanted this to be significant, a good memory. Conrad's heart ached in his chest. He brought them to a stop, his eyes locking with his friend's. "Wes, this is already far better than.." Being stabbed? Okay, bad comparison. He started over. "Just being near you is all I need in order to have a good time. It doesn't matter what we're doing, I just want you."

Conrad craned down, pressing a kiss to Wesley's lips. It was sweet, though, that there had been some real emotional intent behind this request to go skating. And Conrad really hoped that Wesley knew that he didn't need to try all that hard to make his night. He leaned back, trying desperately to control that elated smile on his face. "Now show me, what's this other move of yours?"

He was still catching his breath as they slowed down. Conrad had come after him harder than he'd expected. He'd nearly tripped as he'd pushed himself faster around the rink. Which was perfect because Conrad's chest was rising and falling as much as his own once he caught him. Wes had to bite his tongue a few times to keep from becoming a stupid giggling mess in the other man's arms. "I just wanted to see that British stamina in action," he teased.

Wes didn't mention that it was better than his own date too. He hadn't done this to gloss over his own bad memories. In comparison to Conrad's, his hadn't been that bad. Sure, his ex hadn't had a problem throwing things around in the apartment but he'd never had a girl or guy actually come after him with a damn knife! Just a few drinks. "Well I think you deserve at least one really good date. Even if it was kinda last minute." Wes wanted to say too that he didn't need anything crazy or fancy when they were together. Even things that seemed boring with anyone else was somehow always exciting with Conrad.

But the sentiment got lost in the kiss. Wes could admit to being distracted to the point where he forgot what it was he wanted to say. For a fabulous few seconds, his eyes were glued to Conrad's mouth as they moved away. Hot damn was the only thing running through his mind. A singular body part shouldn't have looked so tempting.

Wes blushed. He wasn't used to being caught staring but there was no way Conrad had missed his little space-out just then. "Huh? Oh, right. Well, not to be anti-climactic but," he looked down to find Conrad's hand and took it. He tugged, pulling Conrad next to him as they went around again side-by-side. Wes then started to hum. "Oh yeah, I'll tell you somethin'. I think you'll understand ..when I say that somethin' - I want to hold your hand," he sang as he squeezed Conrad's hand.

For a moment there, Conrad had to think back on his conversation with Wesley, the night that they'd decided to take things a step further than just simple friendship. Conrad remembered being jealous. And bitter. He remembered his decision to henceforth dislike Ciri and anyone else who became entangled with Wesley. Even Fox, who had known Wes long before his time at the Crown Plaza, which was a touch unfair.

..of course, after the fact, Wesley had taken him upstairs and kissed it all better.

Since then, Conrad had gone back and forth on his feelings on the matter. One minute, he wanted to wash his hands of the whole thing. Because the deeper he became attached to Wesley, the messier this whole affair would become.

But the next, Wesley would look at him like that and Conrad's issues seemed to magically disappear. It didn't matter. Nothing mattered, so long as Wesley Gibson kept looking at him like that.

And then Wesley started singing and Conrad thought for sure he was going to melt to the floor. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry or some pathetic mixture of both. Instead, he returned that squeeze to his hand and sang along with him. Wesley was doing a terrible job of making Conrad not fall in love with him.

That's when Conrad caved completely. He brought Wesley's hand to his mouth, kissing along the back of his knuckles. "Wes," he whispered, his mouth slowly making it's way down his wrist, to the soft side of his forearm, "Can we get these skates off and take this upstairs?"

His old boss had called him lazy. Wesley preferred a different adjective; apathetic. He knew the meaning of hard work. When he wanted something, he went and got it. The first bed he'd bought, though not nearly as plush as the ones here in the hotel, he'd saved for at least a few months and then put the whole thing together completely on his own. It was a small thing to be proud of, sure. The point was that he wasn't lazy. He was just picky about where he put his energy.

Like going out of his way to practice a few tricks that had definitely ended up with him getting a few bruises on his knees. Or remembering all the words to an old song because he knew the band who sang it was a favorite of Conrad's. Granted, he was no Paul McCartney but he sang the best he could. When Conrad joined in, he almost stopped. His brain skipped as it tried to single out just the sound of Conrad's voice. He remembered his friend could sing but wow, he'd forgotten how well. Or maybe he was just falling in love with the sound of his voice. Very likely both.

"Jesus, you're gonna make me fall," he gasped as his brain decided at the last possible second to remember to stay upright and not trip over his own goddamn feet just because someone was pulling a Gomez Adams on him. Wes had to turn and grab the front of Conrad's shirt for balance. Alright, he could see how Morticia had gone weak in the knees for this. His had nearly gone out from under him and Conrad had just kissed his arm.

It wasn't hard to imagine how quickly he'd turn to Jell-O when that mouth ended up in other places. And now Conrad was talking about going upstairs? He knew what he was asking, right? Or maybe Wes was getting ahead of himself. Conrad could just be wanting to end up in bed, make out and play with his hair like they usually did. Wes bit his bottom lip. "We just got them on and now you want to take them off?" He gave Conrad's shirt a playful tug, smirking. "Did I already tire you out?"

Honestly, Conrad wasn't one-hundred percent sure what he was asking for. He knew he wanted to be alone with Wesley. He wanted kisses, he wanted him in his bed. But beyond that, Conrad didn't exactly have a road map of where he wanted to go. Or expectations. He just wanted Wesley in his arms and everything else was just icing on the cake.

Had Wesley tired him out? Conrad shook his head in response to that question, murmuring out a dark-toned, "No, but I'd like you to."

Conrad took hold of Wesley's hips, guiding him back over to the side of the rink. It was pretty ambiguous, what that statement meant. And Conrad would leave it up to Wesley to define it. He got them over to the bench, tugging at his laces and practically tearing off those skates. Only then did it dawn on him that he hadn't addressed one of the subjects he'd meant to bring up much earlier than now..

As he reached for his shoes, he looked over at his friend. "I ah, I almost forgot to mention.. Fox and I are having drinks sometime soon. I know, I know. I need to be careful. I will be careful. But if she's a friend of yours, I'd like to get to know her."

"No, but I'd like you to."

Wes' eyes went wide and his mouth dropped to the floor. There was no mistaking what Conrad meant by that. His tone alone sent a shiver up the brunette's spine that he barely contained with the tiniest moan. "Oh. Yeah," he licked his lips and ran his eyes up and down his friend's form. "I'll definitely try." His mind already was starting to go wild with the sort of attempts he could make that would 'exhaust' the other man. It was good that Conrad was the one who started moving them because Wes might have put a few of those ideas in action right then and there.

But right. There was more privacy upstairs. Wes didn't resist in the slightest as Conrad got him over to start taking off their skates. His intention was to just kick the damn things off like he'd done to his shoes over the years. The faster, the better. Except as he started, Conrad decided then to drop a conversational bomb.

Wes' legs went right out under and he slammed into the floor on his back. But the pain was secondary. Alright, he groaned a little but assured Conrad that he was alright with a tiny wave of his hand. "You're what? Having drinks with Fox?" His eyes narrowed as he sat up but there was a smirk growing to accompany it. "You know, I think you have an addiction to danger, babe."

Conrad winced, both from Wesley's tumble and his question. "I -- We just chatted. Over the Network. And.. it's not all that dangerous. I don't think so, anyway. I just wanted to tell her what happened with Sloan, in New York. Maybe hear more about the Fraternity. Is.. that okay?"

Because if Wesley honest to god didn't want them hanging out alone, Conrad wouldn't do it. Or at the very least, he would invite Wes to come along to be the referee. Conrad wasn't stupid. He knew Fox was just as well-trained as Wes. He knew she was not someone to be messed with. But he wasn't trying to mess with her. He just wanted to get to know her, that was all. She was part of Wesley's life, part of his history. One of the people who made Wesley who he was today. And that was important to Conrad.

But he could also see how this could be taken the wrong way. Especially since Conrad had made it obvious how jealous he had been of Fox. "Or does that make things awkward?"

He'd told Conrad to be careful. To make sure to keep his distance for now. But what had the blonde done instead? Gone and asked Fox out for damn drinks. Wes should have been annoyed. But it was stupidly endearing. "Haven't you scolded me about running headfirst into trouble?" To be fair, Conrad hadn't specified that he would stop him. He just wanted to know so he could go with. "That's adorable. Now I'm wondering if you're more of a troublemaker than I am," he remarked in a huskier tone.

He actually wasn't that upset about it happening. "I do want you two to get along. No, it's not awkward. I mean, actually, you two could get along better than you think. That was one of the reasons I was more comfortable with you at the start." Wes got back to shucking the skates off and pulled his shoes barely on. He thought about leaving them behind if it just meant getting upstairs faster. "Now I think you want to talk to her about a little bit more than just Sloan," he shot Conrad a knowing look. "Which is fine too. Just make sure to find me after and tell me how it went. Has to go better than the first time she and I met." The first time he saw his dad too. But he didn't let his anger get the better of him right now. He needed to get over what Fox had done.

Once he was on his feet, he leaned over and squeezed Conrad's leg reassuringly. "I trust you. You should definitely go. Maybe if you pass the test, we can initiate you into the Fraternity." With what few members there were.

Truth be told, Conrad was curious about what Fox had to say about Wesley. She had claimed that she didn't mean Wes any harm over the Network and oddly, despite not knowing her, Conrad believed her. Because, from his experience, assassins were people with discipline. People who lived by a code. And if Fox was indeed a respectable assassin, Conrad believed she wouldn't make a claim like that if she did not mean it.

Something like that could change on a dime, though, and if she had reason to turn against Wes - or himself, for that matter - she'd probably do it.

"I'll tell you everything, I promise. She's pleasant to speak with. Not my favorite assassin, though." Those blue eyes flashed up at Wesley. With that Fox confession off his chest, the Brit felt much better about proceeding with their evening.. Wherever that may lead them. He stood up, taking Wesley's hand to lead him back to his room.

On that elevator ride up, though, he'd stand horribly close, his hand still very much linked with Wesley's. "I never had the chance to tell you down there, back at the rink -- I am impressed. With your skating. And your singing."

After his talk with Fox, he didn't think there was anything to worry about with her. Other than the normal amount. Maybe she didn't have a reason to kill him now but if she did? Wesley was pretty sure there wasn't but hey, he'd also been pretty sure once that his dad had been a deadbeat asshole so he could be wrong. She was an assassin. And Conrad was a tracker. He wanted a look at what he might end up having to hunt.

Wes understood. He also hoped that it never came to that. That maybe they could trust each other again, that they could go back to how it was before it all got turned upside-down. It would all turn out, yeah, he was sure of it. "Pleasant, huh? I'll see if you're still saying that after." He made a playful swipe at one of Conrad's pockets. "You haven't got gum on you, right?" He wasn't so sure that Conrad wouldn't try if he did.

Adrenaline rising, he followed after Conrad eagerly. He nearly collided with him a couple of times. The shoes were to blame, barely tied on and loose as hell around his ankles. That was the excuse he was going with. And not like his brain kept running hot and cold. One minute, he didn't know if he could wait until they got to Conrad's room before shoving the other man into the nearest wall. The next minute, Conrad was pulling some kind of magic spell on him and melting his insides.

He said impressed in that voice of his and Wes felt six feet tall. "You're turning me into an old man. I've started humming Beatles in the shower now." It was a short elevator ride but he didn't want to wait for the doors to open. He went in for a quick kiss but then found it hard to pull away once he'd started until he realized the doors had opened and were starting to close. Then he pulled away and caught them just before pulling Conrad out into the hall. "Besides, anything to hear you sing again."

"An old man? I don't know what you're talking about. It's what all the young people are singing in the shower where I come from."

Conrad was teasing. He knew the Beatles were probably considered to be 'old people' music in the future.

Not that he was particularly worried about that detail right now, what was considered to be old people music and what wasn't. Wesley was kissing him in the elevator and something grew hot within his core. Wesley's lips felt so good upon his own. So warm and soft and inviting.

When the elevator doors opened, Conrad practically stumbled out with Wesley. He was chasing after him again, like he had at the skating rink, his body language some mix of playful and eager. He leaned down to kiss Wesley, again and again, until they somehow made it to his door. Even then, he didn't stop. He had Wes right up against the door while he blindly fumbled for his key; checking one pocket, then the other to locate it.

If there had been concrete rules that had been set down, well they'd kinda broken them. Wes knew things were kind of complicated and fucking each other silly definitely hadn't helped make the situation any easier. For now, he wouldn't think about it. Conrad looked very pleased by that compliment and yet somehow it was Wesley who was blushing. He stood by what he said though. Conrad was a beautiful English Thoroughbred. Wes would mount him any time.

Not that Conrad was keen on getting out of bed. It was more that he was ready to cuddle up for the night and hold Wesley until he disappeared.
