Thor hadn’t wanted to sit still, and Diana hadn’t wanted to make anything harder for him than it needed to be. True, she had had a rough two days, absolutely convinced she’d never see him again, and grieving that appropriately. So Diana could be off balance, and still a little sad, even when it was mixed with more relief than she’d ever felt in her entire long life. Still, it would not do to forget that Thor had died, and risen, and he knew as such. Diana couldn’t imagine what a strange feeling that would be, or how that had left Thor in its aftermath. He had seemed more concerned with her, and Diana was not always good about asking the pertinent questions. In fairness, her assumption was that he would talk to her about anything important, but she should have known how stupid that idea was outright. After all, they still hadn’t talked about these kisses, or these meetings that could be called dates... or any of it, really. And Diana didn’t mind that, but she still should have put the dots together. In any case, Diana had considered a while before she’d offered up the idea of the roller rink in the basement. She’d been skating with Kal, and she’d had a great time. Roller skating was something Diana actually deeply enjoyed, but she never went out in the human world, lest they notice something off about her. But they were not in the human world, and so Diana had invited Thor roller skating, silly as it seemed for a couple of deities to do a few laps of the rolly rink. They’d set a time, which was really more a matter of both of them dropping whatever they were doing and proceeding with roller rink plans. For Diana, that meant a shower, and more thought about her appearance than she normally put in, especially considering that these weren’t even her clothes. A shame, that, and not least because she had the feeling Thor would like her armor. That had not been a conscious thought of hers, yet, but there was an awareness of it as she chose an outfit for skating. The odds of Diana Prince simply losing her balance and falling down were slimmer than her lasso, but she dressed for it anyway. Black clamdiggers, or perhaps capris; Diana didn’t remember the human word for clothes half the time, and they changed. She was pleased to have moved beyond slips and corsets and stockings, in fairness. A red tank top that she especially liked, because it came with the softest fabric she’d ever felt and a deep V in the back, but the neckline went all the way up to her collarbones, straight across her shoulders. Diana was a sucker for a unique cut and a stretchy fabric, which was such a human thing to think that she had to laugh at herself. Still, what she wouldn’t have given to have shown Hippolyta some of the outfits she’d seen since leaving Themyscira. Her mother was austere, but having now gotten some sense of fashion, she’d also realized her mother had a flair for the dramatic and hunted a good silhouette like prey. The wedge of her back left exposed, from shoulder blades to about three quarters down, was held together on either side by delicate silver chains, which Diana liked even more. Somehow, she managed to make it look casual, with sneakers and a white and silver belt that mimicked the chains of her shirt. A ponytail and tinted lip balm, and Diana figured that anything more would be contrived. There was a difference in wanting to look nice and overdressing, and sweet Zeus, was it a fine line to walk. He beat her there, because Diana was on the second floor of rooms and Thor on the first, but that just meant she had a little time to look at him before she greeted him, and why would she ever miss a single moment of that? And worse, the more he impressed her in ways that had nothing to do with his appearance, the more she liked how he looked to begin with. Diana had always firmly held that someone’s personality was what made them attractive, but it was just downright unfair that he had started from such a good placing anyway. “Hello!” Too loud, as always, and she rolled her eyes at herself. Thankfully, there was music playing in here almost constantly, though not loud enough to be disruptive. Diana wasn’t actually sure if the music played all the time, because she’d turned it off when she and Kal had left, out of politeness, but it was on every time she poked her head in. Could’ve been ghosts, could’ve been other people. A quandary. She pulled him into a hug, held perhaps a moment too long, and then kissed his cheek and turned him loose, casting an eye toward the skates available. “Have you skated much?” |
