As per usual with the hotel, a week would go by and something would change. A new location, a jump in time, new people arriving.. Peggy's appearance had brought quite the shock. Truth be told, Steve was still processing it, to a degree. It was weird, having his old flame and maybe future wife around the Crown Plaza at the same time as Bucky. Peggy herself didn't make things complicated. Far from it. If anything, she had actively tried to uncomplicate matters. It was Steve who was doing all of the overthinking and panicking. A walk through Central Park was the perfect thing to help clear his head. Steve wasn't all that bothered by the location change. It was sort of old hat by now. The lack of residents was.. eerie. But for the most part, it still looked like home. And it wasn't currently on fire (as, knowing the hotel, it probably would be in a few days), so he better enjoy it while he could. He had tried not to talk Tony's ear off about the whole Peggy (or Zemo) situation. Steve had quite literally just ranted to him about Bucky's trip through time and the impact it had left on him. Tony didn't need yet another earful of Steve's woes. Even if one of said woes was living on the same floor as them. "I used to come here and draw," he spoke, gesturing towards the gates of the zoo, "The elephants were always my favorite. They had so much personality. And the monkeys. They'd mess with the zookeepers if they came too close to the bars. They'd steal their hats. Steal their wallets. Sometimes, it took them hours to get those things back. Though I have to say, I'm glad the zoo doesn't look the same as it did back then.." It was at least a little more humane. Not that Steve wanted to explore the zoo. If the people were missing, then the animals likely were too, and looking at a bunch of vacant habitats might be creepier than an empty field. It was about this time that something rustled in some nearby bushes, causing Steve to turn and look. But by the time his eyes had found where the sound was coming from, it seemed like nothing was there. He frowned, glancing at Tony. "..did you hear something?" |
