Adam's next logical step would be to go to the room he'd been assigned. He knew that; he just hadn't accepted it yet. Accepting it felt like giving up, acknowledging that he didn't have any other options, and Adam hated having his options taken away more than he hated almost anything else. If you'd asked him a year ago, he would have said it was what he'd hated most of all. Things had changed since then. He'd already gone along with checking in, too thrown by suddenly being here to do more than go through the motions. Once he'd finished with that, though, and found himself alone in a hotel lobby that looked like nowhere he'd ever been before, nowhere he'd even seen, his brain had sluggishly started working its way through what had just happened. It had been after a shift at Boyd's; he'd been heading to the Barns, to see Ronan and Opal. He'd opened the door to leave the garage and... and here he was. To anyone passing by, it would have looked like he was standing in the middle of the lobby lost in thought. Really, though, Adam was taking in the details of the room, and trying to remember the details he'd been given by the voice on the phone. Adam could turn around and walk outside, or he could go to his room. If he walked outside, he wasn't sure what would happen, and while part of him wanted to do exactly that just so he wouldn't be doing what some voice over the phone and computer screen had told him to, the rest of him realized that would be stupid. He didn't know. Not where he was, not what was happening. As little as he liked it, it seemed like the best option was doing exactly what he was supposed to do... go check out his room. He turned toward the elevators; maybe he'd run into someone who could tell him exactly what was happening to him on the way. |
