He had mentioned Ciri before to Jaskier. The Law of Surprise, after all, had occurred at the same party that the bard had insisted on dragging him to. Which proved fortunate for Jaskier since he could have very nearly lost his life thanks to Pavetta. Which would have been such a shame after he'd done such a wonderful job of bathing him and dressing him up so nicely for the banquet. Geralt had been unused to that sort of behavior so unsolicited and he knew he'd acted sourly. Or as sour as one could get in a tub of hot water and chamomile. But his actions that night had repercussions. Said repercussion was currently heading towards their room. Unfortunately, it was a brief and rushed conversation that he had with his boyfriend before Ciri showed up. He had only just been able to find her, after nearly dying after a botched hunt, the last that he remembered. The trip to Kaer Morhen had been cut short and instead of taking his new charge to his home, he'd ended up here in this hotel. It shouldn't have surprised him to see Ciri here as well. He was impressed with how quickly she had adapted. For a child, she was quite bright. What he knew of her was limited so he hoped she would be full of answers once she did come around. He'd left their room door open in an effort to help her find their room better. Geralt wasn't used to feeling nervous. The uncomfortable sensation in his stomach sat like a stone as he waited, arms crossed in the small space between the doorway and the rest of the room. He looked over his shoulder to Jaskier, frowning. "We'd just ridden past a harpy nest the last I saw her." She'll think I had abandoned her was his unsaid worry. As usual, the witcher wouldn't voice his worries and turned back to staring at the door again. |
