"I wish we'd actually gone for ice cream instead," Bucky murmured out softly with a weak grin.
He knew Steve was right and as nice as it was to hear the words, he couldn't help still feel responsible for the future. Whether it had happened or not, it didn't matter to him. To Steve, to Tony, it had happened. Even if it hadn't been under his control, it had still been done by his hand. That was bad enough. He would try to right what he could but he knew there were some things that couldn't be fixed. Killing someone's parents-
"I guess that explains why he kept giving me those weird looks. I thought it was just because I called him by his dad's name." At least HYDRA hadn't taken his humor. Yet.
He was too tired to stand back up again but he took Steve's hand anyway, knowing he should. Sitting on the floor, as tempting as it was, and contemplating his own death wouldn't help anyone. The feeling wouldn't disappear but at least it started to fade as soon as he let Steve pull him back up. Had it been anyone else, he would have stayed where he was and let them leave him alone. But it was hard to say no to Steve. At least that was one thing that never changed.
"My hero." The grin grew a bit wider as they walked out of hall and down another. "I'd say don't do anything rash on my account but it sounds like you've already done that." Bucky gave their hands a squeeze.
