WHO: Bucky + Steve
WHERE: the elevator
WHEN: Sunday, January 10
WHAT: Bucky grills Steve like it's 1999
STATUS: ongoing
WARNINGS: tbd (language, for sure)
Lying had a very delicate place in life. Bucky strived to be an honest man. He knew first-hand the damage a lie could do. How it started with one and ended up in hundreds, each one covering up the last in some ridiculous attempt to hide the truth. Sure, the truth could be horrible but it was better to just let it out and deal with it than let it fester into something even worse. But Bucky wasn't above letting a little white lie slip by when it was necessary. The important thing was to know where the line was. Everybody lied at some point. Even Captain America. Except, for the life of him, Bucky couldn't figure out exactly what Steve was lying about. In fairness, Bucky couldn't say that Steve had technically told any falsehoods. There had only been certain omissions. Silent conversations and thoughts that he was left out of. A war was going on in Steve's head almost every time they spoke. Sometimes, there was a lull. A ceasefire. Then, Bucky would say something and it was never the same sort of something that would bring back that look. That faraway pained sort of expression that Steve would try to hide before he immediately changed the subject. Bucky had been patient. For over a week, almost two, he'd waited for Steve to come to him. Bucky had always been able to get Steve to talk to him but this time, he'd wanted Steve to unburden on his own. Except he wasn't. And whatever it was that he was keeping inside, it was tearing him up. That only frustrated Bucky more but still, he made sure to wait. Steve was older. He had to know he could still go to him whenever he wanted. Bucky had made that a habit from the very start for them. Whatever was on their minds, their fears or wants or even anything silly, they could share with each other without hesitation. So why the hell was Steve holding back? Must be pretty fucking bad if he wasn't telling him. After ten days, TEN days he gave him, Bucky had enough. If Steve wasn't going to spill his guts voluntarily, then he was going to have to force it out of him. Whatever it was, it wasn't worth Steve giving himself a stroke over. He'd had to lure him into the elevator with the promise of ice cream first since he knew that the second he even broached the subject, Steve's first instinct would be to run. Well, try to run out of an elevator, Cap. He at least waited until they were a few floors down before forcing the elevator to a standstill. Once the sound of the machine grinding to a halt faded away, he turned to face Steve straight-on. "Alright, punk, out with it. You're not telling me something and I'm tired of waiting for you to suck it up and spit it out." Bucky crossed his arms, one judgmental eyebrow rising. "You might be bigger than me but I'm not letting you out of this elevator until you talk." |
