The briefcase was broken, that much was obvious. First, it hadn't taken her where she'd meant to go, depositing her in some hotel. It was a nice enough hotel: she'd been in both worse and better and considered it middle of the road. But that didn't mean she wanted to stay here. Maybe if she hadn't just had the week she'd had the mysteries would be more intriguing. But she had, so she was quite ready to do some things on her terms, thanks. She'd been sorely tempted to forgo the sign-in process and get a feel for the place, but she'd shrugged and gone ahead, feeling fairly confident she could handle whatever was going to happen next. Now, sat in her room with weird devices and clothes that weren't hers, the briefcase wasn't responding at all when she tried to escape. Frustrated, she threw it against the wall. The thunk was satisfying, at least. Until she sighed and picked it up, placing it on the desk opposite her bed. Policing one's brass was important, or whatever. Mostly she was hopeful that maybe it needed some time and would work again later. Best not to break it herself. Having taken a cautious tour of the main floor after signing in, she knew there was a dining room, and a cup of tea or coffee or really anything warm seemed really nice at the moment. She didn't have any money on her, but that had rarely stopped her before. Light hands made quick work of getting herself a cuppa but before she was able to take a sip, she spotted a familiar shape. Five. What the hell was he doing here? Mug halfway to her lips, she just stared for a moment before darting off down the hall, tea sloshing over the rim of the cup she'd left behind and soaking into a tablecloth. |
