STATUS: Closed: In progress
The unit had a brand new smell to it. That mix of fresh paint and carpet and Febreeze, trying desperately to stamp out the lingering scent of mildew and moisture. Sailor was doing his part in trying to make all of the new furniture smell like them all again, spending a while sitting on each piece with his laptop, or lunch, or even just sprawled out on some of it while checking his phone. This unit had come to feel like home to him, he’d realized, and that home had in a way already been taken from him. He wanted to get it back like it was as soon as possible.
Also his unitmate, who had also already been taken from him.
Still in his bathrobe and slippers, Sailor made his way to Nandi’s room. He hadn’t seen her leave the unit yet today, but that didn’t mean she hadn’t left anyway. He knocked on her door hoping she was there, or even hoping Maleigh was there so he wouldn’t be standing there knocking forever. It’s one of those odd embarrassing horrors that people have, being caught knocking on a door when no one was inside. It was like a slow painful death, waiting for someone to answer. At least his own bedroom was just across the hall. And who would really laugh at him, anyway?
Ed. Ed would. But Ed was at work.
Sailor did hope Nandi was there, though, and that had nothing to do with potential embarrassment if she wasn’t. He liked knowing she was there, now. There had been weeks, weeks, where she hadn’t been, and now she was. Sailor wanted to give her something, and he wanted to give it to her before he ate it himself, because that was a risk…
